Hello everyone,

I need your help! I did my research online, I did what I found relevant, but the "Protect" mode on my car radio has reappeared! It’s a Kenwood KDC-452U radio. I’ve tried unplugging it, removing/replacing the fuse, reconnecting everything, but nothing! At first, the Protect mode appeared without warning; I fixed it by doing the aforementioned steps, but after 1 week, it reappeared. What should I do? Thanks for your responses!

Hi

Check if you don't have any speaker cables that are not stripped due to rubbing against the bodywork. On Kenwood as well as other car radios, if the copper part of a cable is stripped and touches the bodywork, the car radio will go into protection mode and display "protect" on the screen.

For example in my doors? Logically, that would be the only place where there could be friction because there is movement, right? If I disconnect the speaker causing the problem and press the reset button, the radio should work, right?

No, to test if it comes from the speaker cables, you disconnect the ISO connector from the speakers on the car radio and turn on the unit to see if it goes back into protect mode. You won't have any sound, but that's okay; you don't need sound for this verification.

If it goes into protect mode, you just have to check all the cables along their entire length.

First of all, thank you for your help. Then, I tried to do your maneuver, that is to disconnect the speakers from the ISO connector; the car radio works fine (without sound). I reconnected the speakers one by one and everything was working perfectly. Then I put everything back in place. After a week, it reappeared.

There's nothing left to do but try it on another car or go to Norauto or Feu Vert to have it tested.
