Hello,
I was wondering if I could install a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or another OS on my PC, knowing that in "System" I have a 32-bit operating system, but a x64 processor. I've already checked that x64 is which version, and it turns out it's 64-bit!

Hello,

With a 64-bit processor, you can install both 32-bit and 64-bit. Who can do more can do less. However, you have to format your 32-bit installation beforehand to reinstall in 64-bit. So see this loss of time as an optimization ;-)

Hello,
I am exactly in the same situation as you, having Windows 10 32 bits and an x64 processor.
I already tried to upgrade from Windows 8 32 bits to 64 bits, but when I inserted the installation disk, I got an error message saying that "my current version of Windows is 32 bits and does not match the architecture of the 64-bit installation media."
I thought it would work by upgrading from Windows 10 32 to 64, but I'm still getting an error message, so if anyone can help you, I’m interested too ^^

If you took the time to read the answers, you would have known immediately, with the first answer, that it is absolutely necessary to format the installation of 32-bit Windows in order to install 64-bit. Take the time to read; we are not going to tell you a lie just to please you!

I admit that I read your response, but after taking a look at the file on formatting (I don’t know if that’s the term) etc., I quickly gave up and posted my message hoping there would be another way :/
But since it seems that this is the only solution, I’m getting back to it with more determination this time!

I have one last question if you don't mind,
is it possible to format only one partition of your HDD and install 64-bit Windows only on that part? Or am I really talking nonsense?

In short, you want 2 Windows: one in 32 bits and the other in 64 bits. Yes, why not? It's perfectly possible. When installing the second Windows, the one in 64 bits, it should install a system selector at startup to allow you to choose between the two.

But, as we can never say it enough, make your backups first ;-)

Even for an upgrade, it is impossible to transform a 32-bit system into a 64-bit one. Either you stay on 32 bits or you format to install 64 bits.

Hello,

I assume you want to perform a free upgrade from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10.
It seems I've read that this is only possible to a version corresponding to what you currently have (32 or 64 bits).
It would be good to hear from a user who has already tried it.
