Hello,
I am facing an identity problem with my Gmail account. It seems that I had never registered a name on my Gmail account and my displayed name was therefore the name of my email address. That is to say, if my address is "jean@gmail.com" for example, I was seen as "jean".
However, I just noticed that my name has now changed. My Gmail account currently has a name that is not mine but that of a friend. I have no idea how this mistake occurred. I may have logged into Gmail once using this friend's hotspot, but that's all.
The problem is that if someone wants to send me an email, they will see me under a false name and think "oh, that's not who I want to send it to!".
I followed the procedure in https://support.google.com/mail/answer/8158?hl=fr to no avail.
I am overwhelmed and would like to appear under my real name as soon as possible...
Thank you for your help.
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 38.0
EDIT: I tried deleting my Google account that has the wrong name, and it didn’t change anything. I then created a new Google account and entered my real name, but... it didn't work, Google still sees me under the false name... what should I do? Am I forced to abandon this email address and create a new one? I would not want to reach that point, and it might not work either.

PROBLEM SOLVED
For those who land here and want to know how to resolve this issue, I deleted the Google account with the wrong name, then I created a new one with my real name. At first, it didn't work; even when providing my new name, the old one remained. But after about 20 minutes, my real name was restored.

Thank you for sharing, I have the same problem.
Did you delete your entire Google account and create a new one with the same Gmail address you had before?
