Where to find install dir?

Good evening,

To install or activate a program, I need to copy two files into "install dir".
What is "install dir" and how can I identify this strange thing?

    Install Dir is the contraction of "Installation Directory," which can be translated into French as "Répertoire (ou Dossier) d'installation." It refers to the directory in which the software has been installed.
