Hello,

I just purchased an Apple SuperDrive connected by a simple USB cable designed for MacBook, and I am unable to get it to work on my iMac; a message appears on the desktop (USB device not supported on this Mac).
Is there a way to make it work on my 2008 iMac?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards.

    Hello,

What system is this iMac running?
2008 iMac with an Intel processor
If you are still on Mac OS X 10.5, which is likely the system it was shipped with, that might be the issue.
The Apple menu / About This Mac will tell you.
But the drive, which should originally equip this iMac, is no longer working?

    Ouch, I just read this:

    System Requirements

    Compatible with the following computers:
    MacBook Pro with Retina display
    MacBook Air
iMac (late 2012) and later models
Mac mini (late 2009) and later models
    Mac Pro (late 2013)

    Where did you buy it?

      So here's some additional information!!!
Indeed, the drive on my iMac is no longer working, and I’ve been given the Apple SuperDrive!!
      20 inches, early 2008
      version 10.10.1 OSX Yosemite
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I was indeed told that one could tinker with it, but I'm not tech-savvy enough. I found forums that provide instructions, but I don’t understand their discussion, so I'm turning to this forum!!!

        Hello coincoin33
I just bought this USB SuperDrive but it doesn't work
I am running OSX Yosemite version 10.10.1
        iMac 21.5 inches mid-2011
        2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
and I've also looked for solutions but nothing worked. If you find a solution
        let me know, thanks
        good luck

        Good evening

This page: https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/HT202665 answers your questions regarding the compatibility of this drive. I think it's unacceptable for Apple to have manufactured a non-universal drive and for sellers to be unable to inform buyers. Some other manufacturers of external drives, for less money, make them for all computers less than ten years old.

      Hello,
thank you very much indeed, the seller sold it to me without even asking me any questions, it's not a big deal, thank you very much for the answer to my question but I am going to call someone who will be able to help me because I am completely lost!! I thought it would be simpler.
      thanks again.
