stuck by bitlocker Solved

Question

Hello,
my son's computer is displaying a BitLocker screen and asking for a recovery key.
I have the key (well, I think it’s the one from the Microsoft account) but the keyboard won't type anything (only numbers but no letters), so I'm completely stuck and not very good with computers!

Can you please help me? It's urgent because my son uses his computer for school.

P.S.: as a bonus, if someone could tell me how this BitLocker ended up on my computer???

I followed the post, intrigued by this story about BitLocker on a Windows 8 RT, and I see that it is marked as "resolved", but there’s no answer on the why or how? Too bad :-(

Hello,

BitLocker is an encryption process that protects all your personal and/or sensitive files.

It is only available on PCs running Windows Ultimate or Enterprise.

Depending on your son's age, he may be more or less willing to tell you what actions he took to make the PC ask for a password that is different from the Windows one (unless chosen intentionally).

What is surprising is that PCs are generally not shipped with the Windows versions mentioned above, but rather with Starter or Home/ Check by right-clicking on the icon corresponding to your computer (my_PC or equivalent) and selecting properties.

Thank you for your response,  I forgot to mention that my son's computer runs on Windows RT. The last action performed was launching a free game app downloaded from the Windows Store the day before.

Pleasant chat, of course. I don't know anything about gaming, but it's possible that a substitute for Bitlocker was secretly installed on your tablet (since it's Windows RT) during the implementation of this game. In principle, the Windows Store download platform is secure and only offers tested applications (to my knowledge), but I don't have Windows RT and what I mentioned about Ultimate and Enterprise does not apply.

Well, actually, I don't really know how I managed it!!!
1/ I don't know how BitLocker got installed.
2/ The locked keyboard wasn't really locked; I didn't know that a BitLocker key was just numbers.
3/ While logging into my Microsoft account for the 22nd time that afternoon, in a futile attempt to resolve my issue, suddenly my other computer provided me with a BitLocker key (but I don't know why!!!). I entered it into my son's computer, and voilà, problem solved!!!

There you go, the exasperating random functioning of Windows!!!
