Hello
I am playing GTA 5 on PS3
and when I start a mission if I don't finish it, how can I save my progress?
I have gone into settings and set it to auto-save
but when I turn off the PS3 and turn it back on, the game starts from scratch

If you haven't completed any main missions or side missions and there hasn't been an auto-save (progress), then you need to go back to one of your hideouts at the bed to save.

If you haven't progressed and haven't even completed the first mission, then you have nothing to save anyway.

Edit: oh yes that's it, it's when you take a trip back in time, this mission is just there to learn the game controls, it's called the prologue by the way, you have nothing to do except save yourself and shoot at the cops, it should take about 5 minutes at most.

I brought up the phone and put it on save now I restarted the game and I have 11 updates to do, it’s long I hope I don’t have to do this every time

No, once is normal to have several because there have been many since it was released, after that you'll be fine until the next one.

It's like having a new PC and having to install all the Windows updates since you didn't do it at launch.
