Ubuntu very slow!

Hello,

I just replaced Windows XP with Ubuntu 14.04 on an old Packard Bell from the 2000s.

However, I have a very embarrassing problem...
Ubuntu is really very slow, to the point of being unusable!
It takes at least 10 seconds for a simple right-click.

Yet, several years ago we installed Ubuntu without any slowdowns.
Additionally, there were no issues with slowness during the installation.

In your opinion, could reinstalling Ubuntu fix the problem, or is there something else?

PS: I must have at least 600 MB of RAM on the PC

You are probably right. But I am still surprised that Ubuntu lags more than XP Pro, and it was working fine before!
I will try Lubuntu.
