Hello, dear internet user
I am writing to you regarding the X-Men movies.
I have my 8-year-old stepson who would like to watch the X-Men film, could you tell me at what age one can watch this kind of movie? I saw that some X-Men films like Wolverine and X-Men Evolution are rated for ages 10 and up, and X-Men: First Class is rated for ages 14 and up.
Can you help me with the others?
Thank you very much for your help.
Marc.

Hello
My child is 8 years old too, personally I don't want him to watch X-Men as there are very shocking and violent scenes. He can watch that in a few years.

Could you mark your discussion as resolved when you have the right answer? Thank you.

Hello, personally I think that X-MEN is more of a fantasy movie rather than a violent one; I would say that 8 years old is the minimum age, at 5/6 years old it's another story, but at 8 years old I believe it's not too young.
During two-thirds of each film, it's people fighting, fantastic or not, it's violence.
I was looking for another example, but I can't find one on YouTube, so failing that, here's this (poor quality) video that shows a fight with one of the characters I mentioned in my previous message, Deadpool versus Wolverine in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine":

Good evening
@ canelle
8 years old!
Are we making a distinction between fantasy films or violent films at 8 years old?! (by the way, one doesn't exclude the other) and even with reality?
Do you have children of that age or nephews? If not, remember when you were 8. There are things that leave a mark & I think this kind of films can be part of that if not actually part of it.
I completely agree with Ch. T. & Livine.
Even if we shouldn't raise them in cotton wool, let's protect them from this television or cinematic violence at 8 years old! Even if all children of the same age react differently, we don't know them (not even our own children) and they don't know themselves either! We are their safety net.
If you're saying this to stir up a debate, my input stops here, (I couldn't help myself) but yours is either provocative or reckless (or oblivious).
Best regards.

Hello,
I still have a VHS of the first X-Men movie that was rated 16 years old (yes, even in theaters, I remember not being old enough, but I managed to get in anyway), but it hasn't had that rating for a long time (if it was everywhere?). Now they usually rate it from 12 years old, which seems more appropriate.
In all these films, there is quite a lot of violence, some scenes are tough (like Magneto having his mother's arms torn off in a concentration camp) and some characters are a bit scary (like Deadpool who appears in X-Men Origins: Wolverine), I think 8 years old is a bit too young.
