Hello, a few months ago I had the bright idea of encrypting some personal files (images and videos) with glary utilities, just out of curiosity, to see how it works.
I made them into self-decrypting files. Unfortunately, I lost the password and no matter how much I dig into my memory, I can't recall it.
Are there any free or paid software available that could help me crack this encryption and recover my photos?

Good evening
It's a lost cause for your files.
Next time, either take notes or have a better memory
See you

Hello Apilco,
If the files you encrypted still exist in an unencrypted version, that is to say before using Glary Utilities and if you have a restore point from before that operation, you just need to restore to a date prior to that.
If those files are extremely important, it's better to lose the installed programs and recover your files; that's the trade-off of restoring to an earlier restore point.
After the restoration and recovery of your files, I advise you to update your antivirus.
Another piece of advice: all these tools—Wise Care, Glary Utilities, TuneUp Utilities, Advanced System Care, Auslogics, etc.—are not recommended if you don't know what they do when you use them, especially when something can be done in one click...
There you go, my friend; I hope you have an earlier restore point with your files before the encryption. -
Thank you, but unfortunately I don't have any as it's been at least 3 months since I deleted them from my HDD. I installed Cain & Abel hoping it might be useful, but I have no idea how to use it.
It's too bad, but I think if I rummage a bit through my removable drives, I might find a few.
As for the tools, as you said, Windows 8 manages system maintenance very well, so I only use them to do... silly things.
Thank you!
