Thunderbird for distribution status notifications

Hello,
I want to reuse Thunderbird for my job searches and thus benefit from read and delivery receipts.
The problem is that, unlike last time, I am not receiving the delivery status notifications, which I found very useful. I send my messages to Gmail; could that be the reason? Is it not working all the time or is there an issue with my configuration?
