Convert DVF audio file to WMA or MP3

Hello!
I bought a SONY dictaphone to help me with my work. My recordings are in DVF format and I would like to convert them to MP3 so that they can be played by Windows Media Player (it doesn't recognize the DVF format...). I contacted Sony France who told me verbatim "I regret to inform you that it is impossible to convert DVF files to MP3 or WAVE." I'm disappointed! There must be a converter or maybe a trick....
I really need assistance from a kind soul.
Sending you a BIG THANK YOU in advance...
Best regards.

media-converter is indeed an excellent site but it does not support DVF.

install the plugin "PLAYERPLUGINSETUP129.EXE" (do a Google search to find the link) and you will be able to play your file in the XP media player.

Hi, here's the solution:
you take your file and rename it to .wma
then you take the switch and you can convert your dvf file to mp3
result: however, the result obtained is lower in terms of quality recovered!!!!!!
moral: don't buy a Sony dictaphone......

Hello,
My wife recently encountered this problem with her Sony ICD-U60 recorder, so I inherited this issue and read the forums like everyone else…
“Piber, Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 11:17:42” cites “Sony Digital Voice Editor 3”.
I found a download link that may interest other impatient buyers who also got tricked by a SONY “MP3 Recorder” that doesn’t “record” at all in MP3.

1/ Link to “Sony® Digital Voice Editor Version 3.1” which allows conversion from DVF to MP3 (or Wav to create an audio CD) for a number of Sony models (including mine… of course).
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support
The software is in English, but it installs a Help (.chm file) in French, English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Korean, and Chinese.
The process is quite simple:
A/ In the Tool>>Options>>MP3 Conversion menu, choose “High Sound Quality”.
B/ In the upper right explorer window, navigate to the directory containing the DVFs to convert. They will display in the lower right window. Select as usual the files you want to convert.
C/ As soon as at least one DVF file is selected, the “MP3 Conv…” button in the toolbar becomes active. When all your DVF files in the directory are selected (CTRL+A for example), click on the “MP3 Conv” button.
D/ If you want to change the destination directory for the mp3 (or .wav),
see menu PC>> Convert File Format then modify the “Destination Folder” and “Save In” fields.
Be careful not to mistakenly change the conversion type (File Type).

To use DVE, I believe you need to have installed the Sony plugin beforehand…

2/ To be able to listen to the DVFs with the PC (Windows Media Player), you must first install the plugin from the CD provided with the device. Some users forgot it at home, far from their current location. You just need to download it from SONY:
For example, for the ICD-60:
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support
Then choose your “Operating System” and finally click on the links that appear until the download.

One last thing: with “High Sound Quality” and an ICD-U60, I get mp3 at 16kbps. It’s clear that a device that measures 5cm long by 2cm wide cannot replace a recording studio worth 100,000 euros.
Happy converting everyone!

Good evening,
Great, thank you very much for the info. That's working!!
I just lost my mom. I had recorded quite a few conversations with my SONY dictaphone in which she told me her childhood memories, and I wanted to turn them into a soundtrack using my video editing software, but it was impossible, unknown files. Thanks to you, I can do it now. Thank you again.

Hello,
I had the same problem but I managed to solve it. Go to: https://www.nch.com.au/switch/
(it's a converter)
Otherwise, you normally have a CD with the product, right? Because with that you can read DVF files. You just need to run the setup.

Hello Osulivan and Cdave,
Thank you both.
As soon as I purchased the dictaphone, I immediately installed the setup plug-in on my PC using the installation CD-ROM. So I can now play my recordings from the dictaphone. What I want is to convert them to MP3 so that I can send them as email attachments over the Internet. Practically everyone can play any MP3, whereas a DVF file... Sony has really locked that down. I had a technician from customer service online who confirmed that the DVF format is proprietary to Sony and that the solution lies, of course, in purchasing the specific converter that costs... blah blah blah... I saw on another forum that someone had the same problem but with their Sony camera.
The supplier from whom I bought the device also mentioned the Switch software to me.
Well, I will be on vacation soon and I will take the time to look into this again. In the meantime, thank you and have a great vacation, and maybe see you soon.
Best regards.

Hello,
I may have skipped something but couldn't find an answer in the help for my problem.
I bought a Sony ICD-U60/WC dictaphone and installed the setup plug-in on my PC using the installation CD-ROM.
So I can read my recordings from the dictaphone on my PC. What I want is to convert them to MP3 so that I can send them as attachments via the Internet. Practically everyone can play any MP3, while a DVF file... Sony has certainly locked that down. I spoke with a tech support technician online who confirmed that the DVF format is proprietary to Sony and that the solution, of course, lies in purchasing the specific converter which costs... blah blah blah... I went to Switch.com: failure.
Can someone help me, please?
Thanks in advance.

Hey, cmcontigne,

Here's what I found for my IC recorder.

You need to go through 2 software...

The first one you can download below and choose the version: Download Express Scribe
https://www.nch.com.au/scribe/index.html

Then you need this software Switch Audio File Conversion Software (free version)
https://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

When you open it in Switch and want to convert, the mp3 didn't work for me but the wav did... so it shouldn't be too much of a problem for you...

Sony gives me a headache.. to work on my videos in m2ts or m2t... I have to go through 3 software before I can edit on Premiere Pro.. GRRRRRRR..

But there's always a solution.

I hope I helped you.

Hello!
Seeing how well you were able to help another person lost in the labyrinth of Sony..., I wonder if you could also assist me? Here it is:
I travel frequently and I forgot the driver for my Sony IC Recorder ICD - SX35 V.O.R; I’m trying to download it online, but I can’t find it anywhere... I won’t be home for another six months and I’m stuck with my data trapped in my recorder...
Aside from wisely advising me never to buy Sony again, could you guide me in the search for this driver?
Thank you in advance and I wish you a lovely day!

Hello,

I need to do the same conversion for my little sister's voice recorder. There is of course a technique, but it involves burning a CD. Burn the DVFs in audio format using the Digital Voice software, the software that comes with the voice recorder. Once the CD is burned, use a music disc conversion software to convert to MP3 (iTunes, Audio Grabber, Media Player) and transform your tracks into wonderful MP3s!!!

Hello,

I recorded phone messages on a digital dictaphone (files in dvf format). I searched every way to convert these files to MP3 files. I solved my problem by getting hold of the software that comes with the digital dictaphone. The conversion of these files is very simple. On the toolbar, you will find a button (convert to MP3). A simple click and you're good to go...

Hello;
I had the same problem, I wanted to work on a second computer where it was impossible to use the Sony CD, fortunately I had my old computer with me, and the program was already installed on it, so thanks to your reminder (because I completely forgot that the program could convert files), I finally solved the problem. Thanks to all the advice, and to everyone who took the time to write suggestions.
