Time format only in cell [Excel] Solved

Question

Hello,

I currently have a small problem with Excel. Indeed, I am vainly trying to format a column of a table whose content is as follows: hhmmss. I would like to format this content in the following way: hh:mm:ss.
Unfortunately, when I manually format my cell with this format, Excel automatically adds the date before the time and the content of my cell is interpreted as a date (example 181134 ==> 04.12.2395 00:00:00).

How can I have ONLY the time in my cell?

Hello,

If you enter example 181134, it will never be a time:
Excel takes it as a number, and your number represents the number of days between 1/1/1900 and ==> 04.12.2395, hence your display.

To have times, you must enter 18:11:34, which will be recorded as decimal hours in your cell; otherwise, they are days.

Hi Mike-31,

Thank you for your response, but if I understand correctly, the brackets are only useful if my values can exceed 24 hours, right?
If that's the case, that's not my situation; my hours do not exceed 24 hours.

I've actually tried your solution, and Excel does not accept this cell format.

Thank you for your response.
My problem is right there. The file I am working with is originally a txt file generated by an electronic device. Therefore, I cannot do anything with the txt file itself.
So I have to work with a hhmmss format. Is it simply not possible to obtain a cell in the hh:mm:ss format and not in the dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm:ss format?
