F4 key not working in Excel 2010

Can someone tell me how to activate the F4 key on my recently acquired laptop?
I want to freeze a cell in an Excel formula and I'm having trouble doing so.

Indeed, the F4 shortcut no longer works the same way in Excel 2007 and 2010 as m@rina points out in this discussion:

Note: After testing, it works but not when selecting a cell globally, only when you select a reference (or multiple references). Then, the behavior is as described by Raymond PENTIER (whom I greet). If you select a cell and use F4, it means to repeat the last action. For example, I change the text of a cell to red, then I select another cell and press F4, the text turns red.
