mkv file with multiple languages

Question

Hello,I have MKV files on my PC in multilingual English and French. When I watch them on VLC, there’s no problem because I know how to choose the language I want.I converted them with software I have on my PC to AVI format to copy them onto my external multimedia hard drive to watch them on my TV, but now I can’t get the audio source in French; it defaults to English. So if there is software that would allow me to convert my MKV files to AVI while keeping the French language, that would be great.Thank you in advance for your help, if any such software exists.YazoConfiguration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello you can, with mkv merge, first remove the audio tracks that you don't want. Then you convert it with your software. Not knowing it makes it hard to get an idea. best regards

I don't know about this log. I'll give you a demo with mkv merge. You'll end up with an mkv file with a single audio track. That could always be useful.
It's not free video converter, by chance.

Afterwards, there is also Freemake Video Converter. Be careful, it is adware, so make sure to uncheck the installation of a toolbar at the beginning. Cheers

Yes, it's the free video converter that I'm using to convert. I made a mistake.

Thank you for the other link; I think I understand. In the options, I unchecked the English option, so I suppose it's going to work. Then I'll convert it into a review with my software or the last one you kindly provided.

Well, the software works really well and I have my MKV files in French, but after converting my files to AVI with my free video converter, there's no problem with the language, still in French, but there's no image and yet I watch them with VLC.

vlc plays almost all formats (supports a good number of codecs)
refer to your multimedia manual to know the supported formats.
if you have already made a successful trial with free in terms of format support
use the same configuration.
for avi (if it's in divx) it's avi (xvid codec video) + mp3 (audio codec).

Well, I just retook a test and I converted it to DivX, and now it's working.

Can you tell us the formats supported by your multimedia?
For example, does it accept MP4 (H264 (codec video) + AAC (audio codec)
this in order to have the least loss of quality. Unless that
suits you.
