Hello, check that it is not disabled or set as the default application.
Go to settings and select Application Manager, swipe your finger from right to left until you access the sub-tab ALL, then search for the app Messages and check if it is active or not. If it is not, logically it should be at the bottom of the ALL tab; otherwise, it should be listed alphabetically between My files and Software update.
Another thing, look for the app Google Hangouts and the app Samsung Chat-on and check that these are not used as the default SMS MMS app. If so, you just need to tap the small square (Remove default values).
I forgot a small detail: if the Messages application is active, go to the applications menu, then tap the menu touch button at the bottom left in the window that opens, scroll down and select Hide apps, then uncheck the Messages application if it is listed there, and then tap OK at the top right.

With your explanations, I was able to solve this issue.
