A priori c'est un problème noyau. Essaye de mettre la dernière kernel image (ou linux image) disponible dans ton gestionnaire de paquetage et reboote dessus. Si tu tiens vraiment à compiler ton kernel, essaye de compiler une version plus récente.
A noter que compiler son kernel à un intérêt limité si tout marche avec le noyau classique. Au besoin il est toujours possible de mettre les kernel-headers (linux-headers) associés.

Je pense que tu devrais d'abord "écouter" ton noyau :
1/ Débranche la carte
2/ Lance la commande:
watch 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices|wc -l'
Ca te donne le nombre de lignes concernées par le noyau concernant les devices de type "usb";
3/ Branche la carte concernée
-> Le nombre de lignes change-t-il ?
Si oui, examine ce fichier /proc/bus/usb/devices
(cat /proc/usb/devices)
Puis examine les syslog selon le même principe (brancher/débrancher):
tail -f /var/log/syslog
et/ou
tail -f /var/log/kern.log
1/ Débranche la carte

Est ce que tu as essayé de monter ta carte en sync ? Moi par exemple pour écrire sur mon téléphone portable j'ai été obligé de rajouter cette option, sinon ça fait un peu nimp :
Avec un peu de chance ca suffira ? Ca suppose bien sûr que linux arrive à creer le device (ici je l'ai appelé /dev/phopne)
