Hello,
So for some time now, at startup, a no-entry sign appears. When I hover over it, it says:
"An error has occurred. Please run the package manager from the contextual menu (right-click) or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: "Broken package count > 0". Usually, this means that some of your installed packages have unmet dependencies."
it's very troublesome because a simple installation becomes impossible.. (error messages ..)
Thank you for your help :)
Configuration: Linux / Firefox 19.0

Hi,
What distribution do you have? if it's Ubuntu or derivatives:
Open a terminal and copy/paste this:
sudo apt-get update (type the password blind) and press Enter

Thank you for your reply. I'm on Ubuntu and once I run your command, this is what I get—a series of lines and in the last ten there are errors!

Sorry for the somewhat late reply, but here it is: I did what you told me and I still find errors... I re-ran the command sudo apt-get update and I get this towards the end: [...] Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com quantal-security/universe Translation-fr_FR Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com quantal-security/universe Translation-fr 970 KB received in 13s (74.3 KB/s) W: GPG error: https://launchpad.net quantal Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 6AF0E1940624A220 W: Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_quantal_multiverse_source_Sources Checksum mismatch W: Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_quantal_restricted_binary-i386_Packages Checksum mismatch W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/upubuntu-com/gnome3/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/upubuntu-com/gnome3/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found E: The download of some index files failed, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Is that Precise Pangolin you installed?
I would uncheck everything related to Quantal.
But you can wait for other more authoritative opinions because right now I don’t see...
Anyway, the addresses are wrong for Quantal. Try to fetch the correct ones... Maybe there is also a conflict between these two distributions... -

Good evening,
I know what I’m doing is called very rude topic necromancy, but since no solution has ever been posted I’m offering mine (I know, the person with the problem already found a workaround two years ago, bla bla bla. But it’s the first link you see from Google and it provides no solution.
For my part, I had this problem and I solved it with the commandsudo apt-get install -f
This had the effect of looking at the unsatisfied dependencies and solving the problem in the best possible way (for me, it involved removing the unnecessary packages that weren’t satisfied).

Would you bother to reply whether your problem is resolved or not, it gives an idea of the solution for others and it’s nicer ;)
