Non-ASCII character 'xc3'

Hello,

I had a Python program, commented with some accents, that worked on Windows. I want to continue working on it under Linux, and there, I get an error message which is the one I present as the title of this question.

I tried specifying different types of encoding at the beginning of the file, but nothing works; it’s still the same error...

What’s happening?

Configuration: Linux / Firefox 14.0.1

The result of the races is that I probably wrote utf_8 instead of utf-8

What is surprising is that now even under ubuntu I write programs without shebang or encoding indications.

Thank you

Hello

Could you determine and tell us which character is displayed when you are on Windows and causes this error when you are on Linux, please?
I would advise you to eliminate all accented characters and test them one by one, comparing what you get on Windows and on your Linux.
Moreover, you should do this not only to find the character responsible for the xc3 error but for a number of other accented characters as well, as it would help better identify the problem.

The CCM site does not display all accented characters correctly, which does not make things easier for such a problem.
But the offending character is likely one of those found on the following page:

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859

Identify the characters that produce an error when you're on Linux by referring to such a page, or another one, please.

Additionally:
- which Linux are you using? what version?
- how did you transfer the file from Windows to Linux?
- what is the encoding of the file used when the OS is Windows?
- also specify the version of Python you are using?

---------------------

Finally, I just searched online, and there have been questions about this same xc3 error, but the explanations are not precise enough to understand why xc3 specifically.

For "\xc3", if the "\x" is the escape character and "c3" is the hexadecimal code (195 in decimal)
The character in question must therefore be: Ã

PS. for special characters in CCM, we can use the HTML write-up → Ã
