Toshiba Laptop Screen Brightness Adjustment !!!

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A10-521 laptop and I just formatted it (I'm running XP Home SP2). The problem is that I can no longer adjust the screen brightness using the keyboard (Fn+F6 or Fn+F7).

This wouldn't be a problem if there was another way to do it, but on this model, it's the only method available, at least to my knowledge...

So if someone could point me to either an alternative system to do it or tell me where to find the right drivers, that would be really nice... Just so you know, I've already searched for the drivers (including on touslesdrivers.com and on the Toshiba site), and nothing has been conclusive!

Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 1.5.0.9

HELLO

I also have a Toshiba and it took me a long time to find it; I just had to right-click on the small battery at the bottom right, click on power options, and then on the left I found brightness settings. My eyes are very happy and I hope I have helped you.

See you soon

I see it, but I can't find it. On the left, there is the brightness adjustment. Oh yes, and I have Windows 10.

Good evening
You should be able to adjust brightness, contrast, and color from the advanced properties of the graphics card (right-click on the desktop, display properties).

Go to the Toshiba website http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp "VALUE ADDED PACKAGE" =)

To fix this issue, all you need to do is download the driver for your graphics card from Toshiba Support, and then go to Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Display -> add brightness on the left, then at the very bottom there is a slider to adjust the brightness.

Even simpler, under the device manager right-click (2nd click for left-handed users) on the Toshiba hot key management driver, select "update" and it's sorted after reboot.

Hello,

I had exactly the same problem with my second-hand Toshiba laptop: the brightness control keys (Fn+F6 and Fn+F7) weren’t working.

I found a solution that worked for me, so I'm sharing it below.

Good luck!

*************************************************************

I found the solution on the European English Toshiba forum from "Jaba"

https://www.toshiba.eu/
Toshiba Support Forums keywords "adjust screen brightness"

I quote him
“you have to install firstly the Toshiba ACPI Common Modules for Windows XP and then Toshiba Hotkey Utility for Windows XP.”

To find these drivers, go to the Toshiba France website under "download / drivers", document your laptop's specifications, and then select the drivers (one by one). The installation is simple (download in zip format; extraction; automatic installation)
Note: the driver name "ACPI Common Modules" is shortened to "Common Modules"

Note: a little mystery: the second driver may not be needed, as its definition sheet does not correspond. Nevertheless, I foolishly applied it. It's up to you to test it if you feel like it.

Good evening,
I have a Toshiba and I'm using Windows Seven.
I accidentally unplugged the computer and when I plugged it back into the charger I encountered a problem with the brightness and the FN F6 and FN F7 keys are not working.
Please help me, it's really hurting my eyes.

Hello,

I also had this problem on my Toshiba Satellite 2410, I installed the "Touch Pad" utility and it works very well, I found it on the Toshiba website.

I had the same problem as you. I damaged my eyes for months.
Thank you for Fn F6. I reinstalled my system myself, but I had a ghost image to copy. So I can't answer you... I think it is TOSHIBA's RESPONSIBILITY to respond to you.

Hi,

It may not be a driver but a utility, have you tried installing the TOSHIBA utility??

For every problem, there is a solution. You just need to find it.
But for that, make sure to complete your topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used the following maneuver:
Go to Control Panel
Select classic view
Click on the (green) power options icon
and on the left side of the screen you can adjust the brightness to your liking
and save your choice

Hi!

I have the same problem as you. Did you eventually find a solution?

What a hassle. No drivers or software seem to have this brightness function. It's crazy.

Thanks if anyone knows the solution

Hello,

well done Véronique, who comes to say: uh... well no, I can’t answer you...!
I have the same problem and I’ve tried all the Toshiba drivers, without success... The key combinations didn’t work either.
The laptop is 30 years old, no more warranty...
It sucks!

So if anyone has an answer, or even a hint of an answer, welcome!

I have the same problem and I just had an idea while reading this topic that worked!
I have a Toshiba Satellite A 210 - 17Z. I removed Vista for XP Pro SP2 and installed all the drivers from the Toshiba site (successfully except for the keyboard).

I double-clicked on the ATI icon in the taskbar and it opened the graphics card adjustment program, and in the color tab there is the setting for contrast, brightness, and gamma!

So if you have an ATI, it should work... for GeForce, I don't know!

Good luck!

Hello and thank you for this info, I tried and it works
So you need to double-click the ATI icon and then a "catalyst" panel opens, there under the "graphics settings" tab then "color", you need to click on "re-enable ATI color controls" and there..... the light was on!!!
Thank you

Hello,

I forgot to mention that the computer needs to be restarted after downloading the drivers (I believe it's often necessary when loading new drivers).

HERE is the solution to ALL YOUR DISPLAY PROBLEMS!!!
You need to restart the laptop and enter the BIOS by pressing "F2", and once inside, you need to load the default drivers
and everything will work correctly.. I do this procedure for every display issue.

Merci.

I had the same problem and I solved it with Marc Malesherbes' advice (comment no. 13 above on March 1, 2009).

You need to go to the Toshiba website, download the drivers by specifying the model name of the PC
- Common modules
- Power Saver utility

After installation, you need to restart and bingo, it works by pressing the FN button and F6 button (reduce brightness) or FN button + F7 button (increase brightness).

Also applies to those using a USB keyboard (for example, after spilling water on their laptop keyboard): go to START, then CONTROL PANEL (in classic view), then INTEL EXTREME GRAPHICS, then COLOR. There, you can adjust the brightness.
