I also have an internet connection problem: my network card works perfectly, it’s operational and recognized by the OS. It also recognizes a network connection, but only local. After checking the proper functioning of the card with my ISP and then with DELL's technical support (since my PC is a DELL), it turns out that there is indeed a problem with Vista. My solutions are formatting or a paid call to the specialized service. So I'm looking for another solution. I have already tried all the solutions proposed in this topic. Please help me, I don’t have a pirated version and I downloaded SP1 (from the Windows site of course). I have already done an antivirus scan that found nothing, and system restore only temporarily resolves the issue. Thank you for your help. P.S.: it's convenient to have consoles that allow for a real internet connection :-p
Euh, j'avais juste un numéro de la clé WEP qui était faux !! C'est peut-être à cause de ça !! Regarde bien sur la boîte de ta box et pas sur la box !! Hihi voilà je peux pas plus t'aider !!
Hello, I have a problem. I have an XP computer configured with the Orange Livebox, and I bought a Vista PC to connect to the internet from my bedroom, but I don't know how to proceed to connect.
Please help me.
Please help me.

Help me!!!
Help me!!!
Good evening everyone
I've been at this for 12 hours, digging through forums to find a solution in vain!!
I disabled Norton Security, but as benedictec3 said, that's not enough. Could you please send me the software to uninstall that you're talking about? Thank you in advance!!!

Hello,
I have two computers running on VISTA. I can connect one of them to the internet without any problem.
The other one connects to the MSN/hotmail messaging service but cannot connect to the internet.
I have updated to Internet Explorer 8: this does not solve my problem.
I have tried with Mozilla: no connection either.
I don't think it's a problem with the Internet Service Provider: the issue arose with NEUF, I switched to FREE:
it doesn't change anything....

Whoever is responding to your message, I have the exact same issue!!
I have a first PC connected via Ethernet to my Livebox and the second one is impossible to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The solution is simple: restore your second PC and everything will work perfectly!!
Don't forget to back up your photos and music on a CD, otherwise you'll lose everything.
Merry Christmas to everyone.

Good evening,
I have a major connectivity issue with Vista Home on an Acer laptop,
I realized that if I update, I can no longer access the internet via IE7 or Firefox, knowing that my connection is good whether it's via Wi-Fi or Ethernet...
Only MSN works...???
And another thing, I've never been able to install the Orange software for the Livebox!!
So currently I haven't had any updates since 01/2008 and I think that's not normal...
But my current concern is that my kid wants to install the new version of Dofus and it's impossible to connect to the server even though the older versions worked fine...
Thank you for your responses.

Good evening,
I found what my problem was, or rather, I mostly found how to solve it... I remembered that I wasn't the one who installed Vista on the computer (it was bought new but it was the demo model...) so I did a factory reset without saving anything (you never know!!) then I did the updates and since then everything is great for the internet, both in Wi-Fi and in auto Ethernet connection (greatly helped by the ACER software)
so there you go, I'm really happy, good luck to those who are having issues with Vista... see you later!

Vista is a real piece of crap, worse than XP. The internet doesn't work, it doesn't automatically detect wireless connections like XP does, it asks you every time to approve clicks, it doesn't allow you to play audio files from another admin user... Those bastards at Microsoft messed up the software, instead of releasing the version intended for the general public, they put out the CIA version for consumers. But what do we care about their shitty security? The PC is ours and if we want to secure it, we can do it ourselves. They should have made that an option and kept the good things from previous versions because Vista is crap. Menus that don't display anymore, you have to search for them, and so on. Damn it, it's a piece of sh*t, it really isn't worth buying. Even pirating it isn't really a good deal. I'm sticking with XP and I even wanted to keep the good old 98 because those idiots instead of keeping the ability to not wipe all files during a new installation like in 98, with XP they delete everything. I only use Vista for testing; it drives you crazy, you have nerve attacks with it!
Hello,
I have a problem as well. I can connect to the internet as soon as I turn on my PC. But after about 10 minutes, after turning on my PC, the internet cuts off. However, I can still play online games like Counter-Strike, but I can't open any web pages. I asked how to fix the problem, and I was told to reinstall Windows Vista (I must have a virus on Vista right now), but I can't manage to reinstall it with the CDs I burned when I bought it. This is a problem for me because I have to turn it on and quickly connect to the internet before the 10 minutes are up, as unfortunately, after those 10 minutes, the internet cuts off.

In Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Connections and check "Never dial a connection"...
That should fix your problem...
I solved all these issues by switching to Ubuntu...

Well apparently I'm not the only one having problems with Vista, it's really ****
Anyway, I'll reassure you a bit, even my ethernet cable isn't working (I'm communicating from another PC right now) I have a Toshiba Satellite and my network card is Atheros... Anyway, if you have any solutions to suggest, I'm open -_-'

I may help some, but not all. If your internet connection doesn't work for some reason, it could be that your IP address has changed and that your box no longer recognizes it. Check the settings on that side.
Here is the solution:
1. Open Network Connections, click on the Start button, go to Control Panel, then Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and finally click on Manage Network Connections.
2. Right-click on the connection, then click on Properties. If prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, provide the password or confirmation.
3. In the Networking tab, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4.
4. In the General tab, click on:
- Obtain an IP address automatically
- Obtain DNS server addresses automatically
good luck.

Sharing the same problem as all of you, I found a few solutions that all worked for me.
First, you can simply switch to Linux which does not cause any problems with the wireless internet connection.
You can also go back to Windows XP.
Or finally, you can simply disable the feature in Vista that disables wireless internet when the computer is in battery-saving mode, so you might have guessed that this solution only works for laptops. This solution has been tested on a custom-made router using the WPA-2 protocol, because on all the others I have never had this problem.
To do this, you go to the start menu and click on Network connections (in French it should be Connexion réseau)
- After that, you enter the properties of your wireless network. You will probably need to provide a password if you are not an administrator.
- Then you click on Configure
- You go to the Power Management tab and uncheck the box that allows Vista to disable the wireless internet when the computer is not plugged in. And there you go.
If that doesn’t work, try turning off the power to the router and the modem to reset it so it gives you a new IP address.
In conclusion, Vista is not very effective; I would love to know who the genius was who invented the option to disable the internet when the laptop is unplugged when it is precisely at those times that we need it.
P.S. If you have another operating system using the connection, you should disable it when you're done, otherwise Vista can be temperamental but that is not confirmed.
