Laptop recognized as CD drive

Solved

Good evening everyone,

I'm going to explain my issue.

When I connected my phone (HTC One X) for the first time to my PC (and after choosing to mount it as a disk drive in order to transfer music onto it), my PC recognizes it as a CD drive, no matter which USB port I use. Therefore, I can't transfer any files because when I try to open it, it displays "Insert a disk into CD drive."

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Please help me, I'm really lost!

Sincerely, Coni.

Do you have anything to activate on your phone?
Have you checked your settings?

Have you searched on Google?

No, nothing, I got it this afternoon, and when I plugged it in this evening, it was detected as a CD drive.
I checked in "PC Connection" and it is indeed mounted as a "disk drive."
But I still cannot put any files on it since it is recognized as a "CD drive" on my PC.

It's the same on the other PC, and both are running Windows 7.

Good evening, it is advisable to set the portable device to "Mass Storage" mode before connecting it, this way it will be recognized like any other storage device, such as a USB flash drive or an external hard drive.

Best regards and have a good evening, STARGATE43.

Hello STARGATE43,

Can you explain to me the changes I need to make?

Because I went to "Settings > PC Connection" but I can't find "Mass Storage", only "Default Connection Type" and "Ask me for USB Connection Type" are displayed, and the connection types it asks me when I plug it in are "Charge only"; "Disk Drive"; "HTC Sync Manager"; "Via USB"; "Internet Tethering".

Best regards, Coni.

I think it would be "Disk Reader," and your laptop would be considered a mere USB stick, a storage device.

Good evening everyone,

So here it is, I contacted HTC support, and they helped me resolve the issue. In fact, it was some applications that were preventing data transfer, so to fix this and be able to put files on your phone, you need to put the phone in "Safe Mode."
To do this, just restart the phone, and when the logo appears during the restart, hold down the "volume down" button until the phone vibrates, which means it is in safe mode. You can then mount it as a disk drive and put any files you want without any problem since all applications are closed or blocked.
There you go! :)

Best regards, Coni.

Hello
I have the same issue, except that my phone is an Orange brand phone, it's a "Roya" phone, I believe... The computer also recognizes it as a CD drive, I can’t figure out how to transfer my music!
If you have a solution to suggest...
Thanks in advance :)

Hello,
When you plug in your phone, a notification will appear and you must then choose between "photos", "files", or "USB device". If you choose "files", your phone will be named SCL O1 or something like that, and you will then be able to copy your music (to the SD card as well if you have one)
Good luck ;)

Good evening everyone,
I hope to find some help, I'm at my wit's end :/

I can't connect my HTC One X to my PC, it just keeps charging. I've already tried installing drivers and HTC Sync Manager, but it doesn't even detect my phone...
I've looked on tons of forums, changed the USB cable, and tried different USB ports on my PC.
My phone is also set to USB settings as USB tethering.

I've really searched everything, tried everything but I really need help now.
I hope there are still people on this forum.
Best regards and thank you for your future help :)
