Hello Laurent, I have exactly the same problem. Thanks to my brother, the problem is resolved.
In the BIOS, disable the Wake up on LAN.
As for the "Test media Failure, check cable," a simple manipulation will fix the issue:
remove the hard drive, run your finger over the connectors behind the HDD, blow on it, reinsert the HDD into the computer, and normally everything will restart. I asked some people, even professionals who told me the drive was dead, etc. Moreover, on all the forums I've read, it's written this way....
For any questions, you can reach me at my email:

I've had this issue twice now "check cable....." NO PROBLEM
I removed the hard drive, cleaned the contacts with my fingers, then used my hairdryer on the cool air setting to clear out the dust in the hard drive slot.
It's not necessarily a problem related to a disconnected cable.

Thank you very much to SANAO, I indeed had the same issue as you, it was just a matter of resetting the BIOS to its default settings and that’s it!!

For my part, the hard drive was already set as the first in the boot order, but I simply disabled the ability to boot from the network (in the main tab).

It seems to be working, let's hope it lasts.

I had the same problem when I tried to install a second hard drive. I eventually realized that it was just the power cable for the hard drive that I had reconnected incorrectly, which was causing this error at startup. I hope this can help you!!

I have a similar problem. I have a laptop running Vista that I'm trying to downgrade to XP, but when I insert the installation CD, I get this message:

Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v9.4.5
Copyright (C) 2006-2006 Broadcom corporation
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel corporation
All rights reserved.
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF : Exiting broadcom PXE ROM.
Operation system not found

And I have tested with two recovery CDs.
Can you please help me?

Information:
-Acer Aspire 5920 laptop, 3Gb of RAM, 8600 GT, and T5550 processor.
-Other than this error, it works perfectly fine.

Thank you for your help. I had the same problem and I removed the memory stick, cleaned it, and put it in another slot, and it works perfectly. Thank you so much.

It's incomprehensible.
Acer laptop purchased 3 months ago.
Same error message accompanied by an unsettling click click click.
I rush to another machine, heading to commentcamarche.net.
I start to freak out when I see all the messages. I press F10 to enter setup... and the computer restarts as if nothing happened...
I think this problem could come back: what to do... I have backed up my data on another disk.

I also had this problem.

While looking around in the BIOS (quite poorly provided -_-'), there was something that seemed strange to me: an exclamation mark next to the boot devices...

In fact, that means they are disabled and I had to press "Shift + 1" to enable them (that's what it said in the BIOS, it might vary depending on the type of BIOS...)

Anyway, once I enabled my CD-ROM drive (and my HDD, but it's blank), meaning no more exclamation mark next to their line, the PC booted directly :)

Hello,
I have the same problem as you with PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
I have tried all the suggested attempts above but without success.
I now hear a small continuous click from the PC.
One small detail I noticed is that the hard drive doesn't always appear in the boot order. When it does appear and I set it as the first option, the PC starts up extremely slowly and eventually freezes.
My computer is a practically new Toshiba (1 month old).
Do you have any explanation?

I have an Acer Aspire 3100 laptop and I'm getting the same message you mentioned (PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable and PXE-MOF: exiting PXE ROM)
Can you explain this to me because I don't know anything about it, you talk about entering the BIOS but I've tried pressing all the keys and I can't get any window. I just took it apart to clean it a bit but nothing works.

Thank you!

Hello,
After a while away, I'm back on the subject as I've resolved the issue with my laptop. I hope this will help you too.

I opened the laptop with a small screwdriver.
Then I unplugged the hard drive. I put it back.
There's a rubber stopper (is that the correct spelling of that word?^^ anyway...). This stopper that holds the hard drive in place is slightly too small, or it may compress over time. So, you just need to reposition your hard drive and wedge something like plastic to increase the thickness of the stopper.

So... a coffee stirrer helped me out.
Luck? Coincidence? Anyway, no issues for 4 months now.

Keep me posted for those who will try the trick....
Cheers ^^

DON'T THROW IT AWAY! IS IT THE HARD DRIVE THAT'S DEAD? YOU CAN BUY A CHEAP ONE OR REPLACE IT WITH AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE WHERE YOU CAN INSTALL WHATEVER PROGRAM YOU WANT. IF IT WAS WINDOWS, TELL THEM YOU DON'T WANT THAT OS AND ASK FOR A REFUND. ALL OF THIS FOR A LITTLE NETBOOK, OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE HARD DRIVE ON A LAPTOP OR DESKTOP, YOU JUST NEED TO UNSCREW THE BACK. BUT YOU SHOULD KEEP THE OLD HARD DRIVE JUST IN CASE THE BOOT OR ANYTHING ELSE WAS ERASED, AND IT CAN STILL BE FIXED (BY CONSULTING A PRO, OF COURSE).

Hello everyone!
I received a broken laptop, it's a Toshiba Satellite A10-S403D. Here is the problem:

Error message on startup:
PXE-E61: Media Test failure check Cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Boot Agent

From what I've read, I understood (more or less) that the machine wants to boot from the network card. I tried to enter the BIOS menu but everything is locked (I tested all the keys!)
Besides a faulty CD drive, I have no more solutions to execute so please if someone could lend me a hand...

--Hi Vympel

As for me, my hard drive is dead!!! The self-test in the BIOS doesn't work.
So it couldn't start from the hard drive, from the CD-ROM, or from the peripherals, so it's booting from the network!!!! Hence the message you know "PXE blablabal" which indeed means booting from the network.

I think you should try to boot with another device like a portable CD-ROM or an external hard drive because in the BIOS everything is set to launch one after another so it will probably find a connected device!!!

The urgent is done, the impossible is in progress.

Hi,
I’m having the same issue at the moment, but my hard drive isn’t dead; I just added a 500-gig hard drive, and after the installation, the problem appeared. I think it might be related to the connection of my new hard drive.
If someone could inform me, as I’m a novice in computers.

Hello, I had the same problem.
I had Wi-Fi connection issues (now resolved!!!)
And now when I turn on the PC, an error message appears after the Acer page launches. It says:
For realtek RTL 8111B/8168B
6 j gigabit ethernet controller v201
EE61: Media test failure check cable PXE MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable partition in cable
Despite this, my PC starts without any problems. Can you tell me how to resolve this issue and whether it is serious or not?
Thank you in advance for your help.

For your information:
Acer 9410z laptop
Running Windows Vista.

Hey fabien62215

is your PC trying to boot from the network? it seems

it should boot from the HD, check SETUP F2 I believe

like in this photo

http://netvideolive.com/pcastuces/Image-0110.jpg
