Can you connect a NAS directly to the computer?

Hello,    Configuration: Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 9.0  I bought a Planet 2-bay SATA NAS RAID server 7202 When I tried to connect it directly to my computer via an Ethernet cable, I get a message saying that the communication cannot be established... Is it not possible to connect this NAS directly to my computer, even temporarily? I attempted this due to copying speed issues encountered with the NAS connected to a Devolo 500 powerline adapter. My computer is also connected to a Devolo 500 powerline adapter (the same one as it has 3 outlets) and folder copying is happening at an average speed of 150 to 200 KB/s!!! Could someone please guide me??? Thanks in advance!

Hello,

A NAS hard drive needs to be connected to the network via a box or a router. Connecting it with a regular Ethernet cable to the computer will not work; you should try using a "crossover" Ethernet cable, which can be found in large stores (I can't guarantee that it will work, but it is possible since it works between computers). The best option is to connect it to a box or a small router.

Thank you, Tom, for the response. I will try to find that type of cable.
I had properly installed the NAS on the electrical network with CPL sockets (Dlan 500Mo/s from Avolo). My computer and the router are also connected to CPL sockets. According to Devolo, my connection was correct, and they told me that the speed issue (averaging 200 Ko/s when copying a folder from the hard drive to the NAS) must be coming from the NAS or the router.
They told me to try connecting the NAS directly to my computer to see if the problem was the same... hence my question, as the computer does not find the NAS in that case.
I called SFR to ask if it could be coming from the router, but I got disconnected twice in the middle of the call! I just got a response saying that CPL sockets were not supported by SFR!!!! It's enough to tear your hair out!!!
So, if anyone has experienced this kind of issue and could shed some light, that would be nice...

The powerline adapters require at least one branch to the box because it's the box that assigns an IP address to the NAS and the other outlet to the NAS hard drive. The computer is already connected to the box if you have internet access on it, so you just need to use the software provided with the NAS or connect to the NAS.
