Hello,
What does the check mark followed by "Seen: 8:20 PM" mean in a chat? What exactly does the person receiving the message do for this to appear? Where does this appear automatically?

This is nonsense!
I went out to do things for several hours while Facebook was open on my PC, and a friend criticized me for not replying because the "seen" thing appeared even though I hadn't been in front of the PC for a long time --' -

Hello Dédé, the "https" is a secure connection. It encrypts data exchanges. Bank websites offer it...
HTTPS allows visitors to verify the identity of the website they are accessing, through an authentication certificate issued by a third-party authority deemed reliable (and typically part of the whitelist of internet browsers). It theoretically guarantees the confidentiality and integrity of the data sent by the user (especially information entered in forms) and received from the server. It can also validate the identity of the visitor, if they are also using a client authentication certificate.
I think it's not so bad... But if you want to change it, you can, just check or uncheck the box for secure browsing: Use Facebook on a secure connection (https) when possible.
Have a good day, see you soon :)

Hello
This happens when the person you are sending the message to is active in the Facebook chat at that time.
For example, if I have Facebook open in one tab but I'm looking at a page in another tab, the "seen" notification will only appear when I return to my page.-

All of this is nice and dandy, but it fosters a certain cowardly spirit. I think people in the past were more straightforward. Of course, there were no electronic messages, but the mentality was authentic. It wasn't about "putting on an act" or "playing it cool." Looking for a trick to "mark as unread" keeps alive a certain fakeness of the 21st century. Back then, people had more character anyway.

Hello!
I would like to ask a question related to this topic, but with a slight nuance.
I would like to know if the time that is displayed is the time when the message was seen for the first time, or if it is the time when it was last seen.
For example: I receive a message at 00:00, I read it at 09:00, and I go back to read it at 10:30, does the time that appears show 09:00 or 10:30?
Thank you in advance for your answer! :) -
The feature doesn't seem to be fully functional yet. I replied to a friend, I know he saw the response (I saw him in person since), but Facebook isn't indicating to me that the message has been read.

Hello, Good evening,
If you don't want the person to see the "seen" status, then read the message but then archive it as "Unread". This will remove the "Seen at such and such time".

Or else, you can delete it permanently :)

I went back to the conversation I had with someone, and the viewed status changed dates twice in a week. Does that mean that my interlocutor returned to the conversation without actually talking to me? Is that possible? Thank you in advance for the answer :)

Hello Marie, I don't think that's normal, there should only be the first hour...
(Scroll up on the topic, someone is asking about the same thing... ;) )
In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, I think Facebook must have done an update in the meantime on instant messaging, so your friend probably checked the time again, which has changed. Unless it’s the time when the update was made!
But don't get it into your head whether it's right or wrong, because we have too much trust in our devices which are not that reliable!
How many friends I have who stress out saying they spent the evening without a message, while it’s the smartphone that wasn't receiving any messages... They complain about a "seen: certain time" and say "you were on FB! Why didn't you reply to me!!!".. ;)
Anyway, don't make a big deal out of these little machines, they’re good, they’re useful, but if the machine is supposed to serve us, we shouldn't be enslaved by it! Think about it! ;)
(just a small aside for all of us, myself included, who have a hard time being without my phone...) -

I don't quite understand: if I send a message to someone who is offline (not absent), will the Seen status appear when they read my message?
-

-
Yes, we can!! :)

Hello, to remove this spy as you say, there are solutions explained here:

And by the way, you can install an extension :) :

To avoid this kind of problem, there are extensions!!
It allows you to no longer have the Seen:

Basically, if the guy left FB open it marks "seen," but if he clicks on the thumbnail or reads it intentionally, his image goes down.
