disable Asus Live Update Solved

Question

Hello,

I just bought an Asus laptop and I would like to disable Asus Live Update. I’ve tried all the solutions suggested in the forums and nothing works:
- I can't find it in C Cleaner (tools, startup) and msconfig - I wasn't able to - I can't download Starter Control Panel 2.8 on Windows 7
- I get the following error message when I try to disable it in Task Scheduler: "An error occurred for the Asus Live Update task. The specified account name is not valid." Yet I am an administrator.

If anyone has another idea, I’m all ears,

Good evening,

To disable Asus Live Update, you need to:

a) Open the Task Scheduler (which is located in the Control Panel / Administrative Tools)
b) Then select the key: Task Scheduler Library
c) In the right panel, select Asus Live Update
d) Right-click
e) Choose disable

I just received a message from the task planner that Asus Live Update is disabled. After waiting for an hour, it worked. I restarted my computer and I didn't get the message. Thank you for your responses, and I will take note for next time.

Very simple solution I discovered: Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS Live Update or C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Live Update and rename "ALU.exe" to anything, like "ALUe.exe", and since the auto-start consists of executing a task meant to launch "ALU.exe" at startup, knowing that this .exe no longer exists (since it is now called ALUe.exe), the task will not launch anything.

Conclusion: Rename "ALU.exe" --> Problem solved.

Note: If you want to launch the live update, type "ALU" in the Windows search, start menu, it will find "ALUe.exe" and launch it manually. =)

Renaming an executable file is a very bad idea. It doesn't really solve the problem of automatic startup because each instance of the renamed executable slows down the login process since the operating system still looks for the file for a certain amount of time (calculated in seconds or even minutes!!!) before giving up. This kind of solution is called "workaround" and complicates an already complicated situation.

The only reasonable options are to uninstall the software or deactivate it, or to cancel its automatic startup (if you don't want to uninstall the product) through the "Startup" tab of the MSCONFIG.EXE utility.
