Hello everyone...
And more specifically to docman95! Hello Stéphane :)
First of all, a HUGE thank you for the procedure "Configure remote access to the Freebox V6" of professional quality! I imagine you work in IT.
I tested the address provided by docman95, and I am not landing on a login but on a message stating that it is impossible to establish a connection with the server! (you too Geekword?).
Locally, FTP works ftp://nyc...no-ip.org I get a request for a username (freebox) and password (freebox password) and thus access to the Freebox hard drive is OK.
I have followed the procedure step by step (and redone and rechecked for 2 days) and for the last few hours, I haven't made any progress!!! Maybe I just need to be patient as you mentioned:
"The reason for your problem: Your DNS registration is not done OR your IP is not yet propagated on the primary DNS once your registration is done on dyndns or no-ip. That’s why you are still invisible from the internet. You have to wait several days, sometimes more than a week."
But I don't really believe that lol
My address created on no-ip works from the OUTSIDE in HTTP
http://...no-ip.org I arrive at the Freebox Server Access login OK.
ON the other hand... From the OUTSIDE in FTP (tested with my S3 in 3G).
Using ES File Explorer (android) recommended by docman95 (I was already using it, it’s excellent for LAN too) Well in FTP:
FTP host server: nyc...no-ip.org
Port: 21
Passive
User: freebox
Password: (password set in the Freebox)
I validate with OK... Add Server... Error Cannot contact the FTP server (nyc...no-ip.org)
FTP host server: 82.2.....7 SAME!
I turned off the Windows firewall and Avast antivirus just to check...
SAME?
Hummm... There it is!!!
So either it doesn't work from the outside! Or I missed something.
I am not in the 95 (even though I lived in Domont a long time ago) but in the 17 ;)
Thank you for your insights...
Nycoo-
I just tested with FTP Expert (locally) OK It works.
I just tested with FTP ES Explorer (locally over WiFi) OK It works.
Now I'm switching to 3G or H+ actually with FTP ES Explorer (outside, so H+) Connection error. ES Explorer specifies:
This may be caused by:
WiFi turned off (in fact YES)
invalid IP address (I just tested it over WiFi OK)
blocked by the firewall (I tested with and without)
the FTP server is stopped (on the Freebox?).
I'm afraid that from the outside it's dead :(
Waiting...
Have a nice Sunday :) -
Wait, I was in the middle of preparing the dump. Yes, I work in IT but in other dimensions.
Do you have a chip in your tablet? I continue to do all kinds of tests to improve my processor but I don't have only that to do either.
Technically, the transfer rate via Bluetooth is so low that I wouldn't do FTP over this technology. Spending the night transferring 10kb is pointless in my opinion.
Here, it works with ES Explorer in FTP, from my tablet (over Wi-Fi).
I'm trying this afternoon on 3G. I'm going to put the chip from my S3 into my tablet.

In ES Explorer, the name of your server must be: hostname.no-ip.org
Do not specify any encoding and use port 21
You also tell me: But I don’t really believe it lol
Explanations:
The replication of servers can take a lot of time. Their databases are global and therefore enormous to replicate and above all, there are 2 primary servers (it seems to me) spread out around the world.
If they have configured the servers for monthly replication, you will have to wait until the next replication.
If you want me to help you, no problem, but you’ll have to tell me more about what you’ve done (in PM, please). -
Re Hello... docman95
I have some time this afternoon if you want and if you can!
I was saying I don't really believe it because my address: nyc...no-ip.org on the net externally http:// is okay, I'm getting to my box just fine. So it must be okay :)
For the rest, I confirm that everything should be fine...
For your test, I don’t understand why you’re not doing it from your S3 on 3G directly with ES Explorer via FTP??? At worst, share your 3G connection from the S3 and connect your tablet! ;) -
Hello,
I don't have time today and honestly, I'm not the troubleshooting hotline that we all are. You've done everything you needed to. You should be able to connect via FTP from anywhere.
From outside http:// is fine, I'm hitting my box correctly yes indeed that's good. If you've added the route on port 21 you can connect via FTP. Configure a client as indicated in my procedure.
I've done several tests on 3G with various means of connection. It works more or less but honestly doing FTP on 3G is clearly pointless given the speeds on 3G. Do I really want to stress myself out with others???
You also need to make sure that with Orange (that's my case) the FTP streams go through and that's not guaranteed. -
Hello Nycoo, it's indeed been my job for 15 years now.
I've done some remote tests from a friend's place and elsewhere. From certain PCs, I have access to my box via FTP, but not from all PCs. I haven't found the reason yet, but I'm looking into it. However, with 3G, I don't stress about it since 3G only has a 12KB speed. If you really want to use this technology, get in touch with your operator and ask them the question. This technology is reserved for large companies like GDF or TOTAL, to name a few. This service is too expensive for individuals and unnecessary in my opinion.
As of now, I'm exploiting Windows 7 to 99% of its capabilities. There's no reason for a lousy FTP to resist me. Stay patient, I'm looking for the solution and I will update my procedure once I find the solution.

Hello...
After numerous tests, research, and exchanges on several forums!!!
As of TODAY 27/03/2013, access to the FreeBox V6 from the outside is possible via HTTP through the FreeServer interface BUT NO FTP ACCESS FROM THE OUTSIDE (local network yes, but it's better to use direct LAN!).
To be continued...
Best regards,
Nycoo -

I specify that IF external FTP access is possible. It works for me. Why would it be different for all of you?
-
Well, following our exchanges, it seems that the tests you conducted were over local FTP on a local Wi-Fi!!!
After discussions on various forums and confirmation from several people at Free's customer service, external access to the FreeBox V6 Révolution server via FTP is currently not possible.
Hence the proposal to support this request with Free:
http://bugs.freeplayer.org/task/7532 -
Have you tried connecting from a friend's place, connected to his Wi-Fi network, to open an FTP session on your box?
Whenever I'm at a friend's place, I make a video.
Your request could be useful to improve the box's features, and I find the idea super interesting. I'm afraid we might have to wait months to see the addition of this feature.
In any case, I salute the initiative.

Well, I don't want to sound too pushy (even though I'm the author of this topic), but the exchanges here do show that there is a certain discomfort surrounding this external FTP access. Even though docman95 might succeed while others do not, the difficulty remains abnormal... Well, that's just my opinion...
Just to show off a bit (sorry), I found a dual solution by getting myself a Synology NAS (DS413). Of course, you have to be interested in that...
So, either:
1. I map my Freebox to my NAS, and by accessing this later externally, I consequently access the entire content of my Freebox (copy, deletion, etc.)
2. even better!!! Synology incorporates a VPN client solution into its NAS. And there, you wouldn't believe the happiness. Wherever I am (as long as port 1723 is open on the network I'm on), I can access both my Syno NAS and my Freebox NAS just like I were local. And thus, I can do FTP, http, Webdav, SSH, etc.
The cherry on top is that via my Android Smartphone, believe it or not, it works like a charm (3G, Wifi)...
In short, to summarize, I can believe that docman95 can successfully access FTP, but I can also believe that an intermediate step might be necessary (VPN or something).
Still, Free should simplify this, especially since this request has been raised by many users for quite some time (see bugtracker).
There you go... ;-) -
Hello everyone...
To wrap up (for me), I did a local FTP connection test (FTP Expert) and a remote test on a PC connected to Free as well (Freebox V6 with TeamViewer and FileZilla).
- Local OK
- Remote: Unable to establish a connection to the server, no response.
Same settings for both tests, port 21 is well configured ;) even if not visible on the screenshot.
Best regards to all... Looking forward to it.

Look at your IP address my friend, don't you think something is missing (82.228.1)? You're missing a piece, for example: 88.228.1.xx
An IP address is 32 bits, which is xx.xx.xx.xx
4x8 bits to be very precise and not 24 bits as you have configured your client.
Correct the issue and try again. Please keep us informed of the results. -
Here is

I intentionally go through the dyndns hostname and not through the box's IP. With this method, it works from everywhere.
Now I have provided enough elements that demonstrate the opposite, (not to mention a sufficiently clear procedure) of what everyone criticizes, and for the sole reason that no one knows and especially does not understand how computer networks work.
I'm tired of wasting my time and I will no longer respond.-
Hello,
dyndns is useless since most Freebox users are unbundled and have a fixed IP. Educate yourself on what a dyndns service actually does.
Nycoo and many others have proven to you, beyond any doubt, that you are wrong.
I don't remember who actually called Free, and they responded that external FTP access was impossible. You can't make this up.
A significant number of messages have been posted on Free's BugTracker about this issue.
It's not just you who will make anyone believe otherwise.
I remind you that all your tests were conducted locally, and there's no need for all this fuss to access FTP locally. People have tried your method, and have posted that it doesn't work.
