Text to number conversion in Open Office

Hello
I would like to try Open Office instead of EXCEL.

I copy lists of numbers in text format from the web
that I place in an Open Office spreadsheet to work on the values.
The Help tells me that I can convert them to numbers
if they do not have decimal parts!
This limits the use of Open Office.
EXCEL has a "convert to number" function without this restriction.

Is there something I'm missing?

in fact, the numbers read are indeed numbers but with a point instead of a comma.
it is enough to replace the points with commas to treat them as numbers.
