Question

Hello,   since yesterday when I try to start my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, there is a tone and the message "hard disk drive not found" appears: what is the cause and what are the solutions?  Thank you in advance for your help !!!

Hello deathnote. Try accessing your BIOS (usually F2 at startup), go to the boot priority on startup and check if your hard drive appears; if it does, set it as the boot priority, if it doesn't appear, keep me informed. -- Les hiboux ne sont pas ce qu'ils semblent.

Thank you for your response In the BIOS, there is SATA Operation and below, the selected item is AHCI and a legend: "AHCI = SATA is configured for AHCI mode" What should I do??

I'm sorry for the late reply, I just came back from lunch. Try setting the SATA configuration to ATA mode instead of AHCI in the BIOS, then try to make your hard drive the boot priority in the boot priorities (if you can see your hard drive, of course). Thank you for your response  I tried what you suggested but nothing changes  the hard drive is not recognized  I then booted from the CD and selected "repair the computer" but there are no restore points appearing and the startup repair did not work either and I did not create a system image however I do have the installation DVD  I also have the impression that the hard drive is making a faint noise, could it be failing (even though it is only 1 year old). So I'm wondering if it's worth attempting a format!!  Thanks in advance

Download this (https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/22571-ultimate-boot-cd/ Then go into your BIOS, set the CD drive as the first boot priority, burn this utility onto a CD, start your computer with the CD inside, and then look for hard disk tools; you should have hard drive tests. Thank you for your response, but the problem now, and this was to be expected, is that I can't even format since the BIOS doesn't recognize the hard drive, so no partition appears.  I've also heard about boot viruses.  What do you think?!

Hello,  Indeed, your hard drive seems unfortunately dead, but that's not certain. It is also possible that it is, for example, poorly connected, although that's unlikely with a laptop..  --  To err is human, to persist is diabolical.

I took it apart and put it back together, and the problem persisted, so I don't think it's a connection issue.  However, I would like to know why nothing works in the MBR (fixboot, fixmbr): I get the message unable to lock > NTFS ... ?

If your hard drive is not functioning normally (the "quiet noise"), it's as if it doesn't exist. It is not recognized by the BIOS and cannot indicate anything.  And the BIOS reports that it cannot find a hard drive ("hard disk drive not found") --  To err is human, to persist is diabolical.

Indeed, once the disk was changed, I no longer had any problems. I bought my hard drive from a small computer shop!
