openoffice: adding new fonts Solved/Closed

Hello everyone!  Does anyone know how to add new fonts to the drop-down menu in Open Office Writer? (I have version 2.x)  Thank you for your answers  La gribouille

Hello,

Just copy the fonts into the following folder:

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\share\fonts

Then you need to close Open Office and the Quick Launch of Open Office (next to the clock) before reopening it.

There is a command (assistant) in the File menu/Assistant/Install fonts from the WEB...

That said, these fonts will only be available for Ooo. You need to copy the *.ttf files from "c:\program files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\share\fonts" (or equivalent of the Ooo installation directory) to "c:\windows\fonts" (or equivalent depending on the Windows version) so that they can be used with other applications.

I had to put my .ttf fonts in C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\share\fonts\truetype

except that instead of OpenOffice.org 2.0 you put OpenOffice.org 2.X with X equivalent to your version (the directory already exists logically) you just need to create the /fonts/truetype/

Hello,

I used Patrick's method (by loading a downloaded file offline) and it worked in 2 minutes. In fact, to have the fonts everywhere, you just need to create a directory with all your used fonts and copy them both in Windows (in C:\Windows\Fonts for Windows XP) and in OpenOffice (there's a command (assistant) in the File menu/Assistant/Install fonts from the WEB...).

It's all explained clearly above, Guillaume. Even I understood it, and I'm just a kid (15 years old after all ^^). Don't take it the wrong way. So, to add a font, you first need to create a folder in C:/Program Files/OpenOffice.org2.2/share/ called "fonts" inside which you will create another folder named "truetype". That's where you'll store your fonts (in .ttf format, which is the one we always find). They will appear, after you restart OpenOffice, like regular fonts. You can then enjoy them without moderation ^^.

This method worked for me with OpenOffice 2.0. I hope it will be the same for OpenOffice 2.2.

How to install a font
# Unzip the files you downloaded, then:

Windows Vista: Right-click on the font files (.ttf, .otf, .fon) > Install
Windows XP: Place the font files (.ttf, .otf, .fon) in C:\Windows\Fonts
Mac OS X: Place the font files (.ttf, .otf) in /Library/Fonts

I followed the advice given above and simply, with Open Office 2.4, as the fonts folder did not exist, I had to create it in Program Files, OpenOffice 2.4, Share. Then I created a "truetype" folder, I dragged my fonts in and voilà, MARVELLOUS, all my new fonts joined those pre-installed in the program.

I don't know if it's the same in version 3.3, but I downloaded the font from Dafont, then I clicked "save," and after that, I opened the folder where I had saved it. I opened the font folder and double-clicked on the file called "TrueType font file," and I clicked "install" in the upper left, and it worked. Then you open Open Office, and the font is there :D

I have Open Office 3.3 and I've tried all your methods but none of them work =S! What I don't understand is that when I'm in Open Office and I go to file/assistant I’m supposed to find "Install Fonts from the Web" but it’s not displayed. The same goes for "Install new dictionaries"... I really don’t understand how I'm supposed to get new fonts with this version of Open Office! Could someone help me?

I am on Windows 7 and I have version 3.3 of Open Office. I simply saved the fonts in my documents, then I right-clicked, opened and then installed. Restarting Open Office worked finally!!

Hello!
I have a technique that's quite simple with a very wide choice of fonts. (on Vista)
First, go to Dafont, select the font that suits you by clicking on
download (you must have previously installed winRAR). Then the winRAR software will open, click on extract to, another window will pop up, then enter the address of the folder where you want to put your font. Click OK. Next, open that folder, copy your font, in the search bar (in the start menu) type C:/windows/fonts, open that folder, and paste your font inside. And there you go, you'll be able to enjoy your font in OpenOffice, PhotoFiltre,.... Personally, I'm addicted to it :)
