Text box copy/paste issue

Hello,

When I copy/paste a text box, it automatically retains the text from the original one. Moreover, if one of the text boxes is modified, the other one is too.
After several searches, I tried the following:
Tools->Options->Editing tab check the option "Typing replaces selection"
But the problem is still there.

Thank you for your help

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0

Does this problem occur with the Office suite software?

Yes, but I am using Office Suite version 2003.

"Moreover, if one of the text areas is changed, the other one is as well."

I tried to reproduce this phenomenon, but without success!

Can you describe in detail the steps of your manipulation?

    1. I create a text box or an auto shape onto which I add text.
    2. I copy this text box or auto shape containing text (it therefore contains the same text)
    3. If I modify the text in the new text box, the text in the old one is modified the same way.

I encounter the same issue if I create a new text box:
    1. I create a text box or an auto shape onto which I add text.
    2. I create a new text box and it automatically contains the text from the previous one. I cannot modify one without modifying the other.

I would also like to clarify that this problem has arisen recently: I had never encountered it before and yet I haven't changed any settings...

    Yeah! Amazing...

But I'm left wanting more: when I asked you to "describe in detail the steps of your manipulation", it was to know if you simply did a copy-paste, or a duplication with the ctrl+D shortcut, or a linked copy, or an object insertion... and also if this happens only in Word or also in Excel.
Could you send an excerpt of your file, so we can examine this phenomenon?

    Hello,

This is a known issue (yes, I know that reassures you ;)) that occurs or used to occur (because it’s been a while since I’ve seen it) in some corrupted documents.

One solution is to copy all the text from the document without the last paragraph mark (important) and paste it into a new doc, then save as.

If the problem recurs in any new document, you will need to consider renaming the normal.dot so that Word creates a new one.

And finally, check for Office updates. This kind of thing often happens with versions of Office that are not up to date.
