My domain is still greyed out

Hello,
I have Windows 7 as my operating system and I am an intern working as a network assistant in a company. My issue is that I would like to connect to the domain of our structure; I am the only one using Windows 7, while the others are on Windows XP Professional and are connected to the domain.
When I go to the properties of my computer to change the settings, the network identity option is greyed out, and when I try to change the workgroup to join the domain, the same happens—it's impossible to check it, as it remains greyed out. How can I join the domain? Thank you.
