Hello,
I wish to install a finite element software. I start the installation and immediately the InstallShield Wizard blocks and sends me this error file, asking me to "verify that you have completed a previous installation and close other applications":
Error Code: -5003 : 0x8004ace8
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (955)
PAPP:MSC.Patran
PVENDOR:MSC.Software Corporation (www.mscsoftware.com)
PGUID:dd88162a-0d9f-41a4-b20b-de312a9fe176
$7.1.100.1248
What could be the solutions? Bad drivers? Other solutions to start the installation?
I have tested everything, nothing works, I have also updated Windows
Thank you in advance
See you soon

Hello wish,
A little more details wouldn't hurt if you expect a CCMist to take a look at your case.
1. In what environment is this occurring?
2. What is this software suite you want to install?
3. Is it absolutely necessary to use InstallShield to download and then install this suite?
4. Are there no resources at MSC Software Corporation to overcome your issue (do you need to uninstall a previous version, clean registries, etc.?)
5. Has the problem occurred with InstallShield:
5.1. more than once for this MSC software?
5.2. for the installation of another software?
Best regards. -
Hello,
If you have a good understanding of technical English, you will find all the answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding InstallShield here: http://consumer.installshield.com/faq.asp?
That said, if you want to uninstall InstallShield manager, it seems that someone found where to download the uninstallation program at https://www.clubic.com/forum/t/installshield-update-cest-quoi-ca-comment-le-desinstaller/340004; it is the SoftwareManagerUninstall.exe program that was available for direct download there: http://support.installshield.com/kb/files/Q112918/SoftwareManagerUninstall.exe (I share this without any guarantee, not having tested it myself).
Best regards.

Thank you CCMclaude
But if I uninstall it, will I still be able to install my other software (Patran Nastran) because if InstallShield intervenes when I install my software, it must be useful for the installation, or am I wrong?
From what I've read, it's not an important software, but I want to be sure before I remove it.
Thank you in advance-
Honestly, I don't know if InstallShield is essential when it comes to installing or updating software that was developed without its assistance (in which case, I think it would be a paid version of InstallShield).
Before uninstalling InstallShield, wouldn't it be wiser to check with Patran Nastran by specifying:
1. what version of their product is on your computer (and where you got it from)
2. that it's the AddOn (I suppose) InstallShield that alerted you about the availability of a recently updated version of their product
3. that you prefer to download the new version directly from them but cannot find the link.
Best regards.

Thank you CCMclaude
Actually, I just saw perhaps the solution to the problem
When I install Nastran, the installation works, it launches with an installshield version 6.30.100.1255
But when I install Patran, it is a version 7.1.100.1248
The ideal thing would be to launch Patran with version 6.30.100.1255? How can I do that? Should I uninstall version 7.1.100.1248?
My PC is running Windows XP SP2, yesterday I updated to SP3 without realizing it, was that useful or rather harmful?
Thank you-
I'll be back in 3 hours.
If your SP3 for XP installed properly, leave it!
(I suppose your IS problem was before the upgrade to SP3, right?)
If you know how to use msconfig, you can always disable (but not uninstall) InstallShield.
On the other hand, I don't quite understand the distinction you just made between Patran and Nastran: aren't they the same product?
See you later.

Yes, in fact, Patran is a post-processing tool and Nastran performs the finite element calculation, so the two go together.
I will tinker with this a bit more.
Thanks, see you soon. -
Re,
I feel that I am reaching my limits of competence at this point. So here's what I can still tell you:
As I have already mentioned, you can, with msconfig, disable InstallShield (if it continues to poison your existence), until Patran-Nistran is completely updated.
However, it is not impossible that InstallShield may reappear during a Windows Update...
In the System Configuration window of msconfig, check under the Startup tab if the line for InstallShield is checked: uncheck it so that InstallShield does not activate at Startup and mess with your ****ons.
This line appears as follows, under:
* Startup Item: Macrovision FLEXnet Connect
* Manufacturer: Macrovision Corporation
* Command: C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\ (blabla) \ISUSPM.exe -startup
* Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
There you go!
