Shut down a PC remotely (shutdown -i)

Solved

Hello,
So here is the problem: I have 2 PCs (on the same network) and I would like to be able to shut one of them down remotely. I use the command "shutdown -i" and then enter the IP address of the concerned computer, but a message appears: "The name of the entered computer is not valid or remote shutdown is not supported by the target computer."
So I would like to know how to enable remote shutdown on my second computer.

Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 3.6.13

The shutdown -i command cannot be used remotely. Only the -s and -r parameters are possible.

Hello

In this case, why is the window called "Remote Stop" and why can you enter the name of a remote PC there?

Thank you for your responses, but I don’t want a program; I want to turn it off using the shutdown command.
So I just want to know how to manage the remote shutdown of my second computer.
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,

I use a smart plug connected to my computer that allows me to turn off my computer remotely via the plug that I can control from a distance.

Here's the link to the product that I've been using for a year and a half now and it's really great! I recommend it to everyone! http://arpci.fr/alimentation-ip-power/5426-ip-power-9255-fr.html

Hello meflo71, I'm also looking to perform this trick on Windows Vista because I found the trick for Windows XP and it doesn't work. So if you have the trick for Windows Vista, I'm very interested. Thank you in advance.

Hi

maybe a rights issue

Try connecting to the remote PC first by typing in run \\remote PC name
you will most likely be prompted for a login/password (you will need to enter those of an existing account on the remote PC, note that empty passwords are not allowed)

Otherwise, you also have the command shutdown -s -m \\remote PC name but I think it will be the same

First of all, thank you for your response.
As for the command shutdown -s -m \\remote-computer-name, that doesn't work either.
As for connecting to the remote PC, I believe I tried, but I don't remember at all if it was successful or not...

It doesn't work means nothing

What is the exact and complete error message?

As for the connection to the remote PC, I think I tried it but I can't remember at all if it was successful or not...

Is it so difficult to do it again? ...

To be honest, yes: I don't have my second PC at the moment. I'll try all that again as soon as my wonder returns (in a few weeks) and I'll keep you updated ;)
