Here’s what ignorance is.
A cover page is white
A table of contents is at the end with the list of chapters.
The front cover is the one that shows its face, like Le Point, Paris-Match, VSD. It is also said the 1st cover.

That being said, with Word, or Open Office or others, it's not easy. It's better to use a composition software, like Corel Draw, Serif Draw, Open Draw (free) or Publisher (it's expensive) Adobe Illustrator (even more expensive) or even a drawing software. I won't mention Photoshop since it costs an arm and a leg, but Elements or Paint Shop Pro are still accessible between 90 and 100 €. There's a free one in French that used to be paid just a few months ago. It's time to try it out. It's Pixbuilder Studio from www.wnsoft.com.
If I were you, I would juggle between Pixbuilder (which manages layers) and Open Draw for the assembly.

Take a sheet of white paper and draw by hand what you liked:
A red frame, like Le Point?
The title: Clearly legible, with serifs or without serifs? In one color with a border of another color?
With subtitles. With a photo taking up a lot of space? That's what's called the imprint.
Advice: the simpler it is, the more beautiful it is! It needs to be readable.

If you opt for using Pixbuilder or Photoshop Elements, or Paint Shop Pro, you'll have to learn what layers are and how to export these successive layers in PNG format which supports transparency.

Then, we're almost there, you'll need to determine if you want to do a single print on your desktop printer, if you're doing 15 for your friends or if you're doing 10,000 through a printer.
If it's a printer, you'll need to export the composition in printer quality PDF or prepress quality. Otherwise, the printer may refuse the contract, redo your work, and charge you for it.

I can help you (well, maybe)

First, for those who already have a version of OpenOffice, you need to uninstall it (in settings click on add or remove a program)
For those who do not have OpenOffice, you need to download it
of course, the software is free but for a trial version; otherwise, you need to buy the full version.
For the trial version, you should search on Google (or another search engine) for the Microsoft Office 2010 beta pack, either Family or the Student pack, or the pack for businesses.
Then, once you have downloaded it, and opened it, you will choose in new document the type of presentation page you want.

Just remember that the documents you save under the trial version won't open once it has expired, so uninstall it!!
