Square Root Result TI 83 Plus

Question

Hello,

It has now been a week since I've searched everywhere (that is, user manual, instruction manual, whether it’s the one provided with the calculator or those online, forums, and I even asked my teacher) how to display a result in square root form on my TI 83 Plus!! For example: when I calculate the square root of 8, instead of getting 2.828427 etc..., I would like to have 2 square root of 2. I’m in 11th grade and it’s driving me crazy...

So this time, I’m not looking for theory or assumptions; I would like a concrete answer from a user who has already done this manipulation.

You need to go to mode, then instead of "auto" result, you need to choose "dec," and there you go.

Hello,

I understand that you don’t want any assumptions, but I feel that what you’re asking is in the realm of symbolic calculation, which your calculator cannot perform.
Check out the TI89 and other n-spire... Casio also makes them.

Hello,

I think this is about formal calculation (like simplifying mathematical expressions). From what I've seen online, such software is not originally integrated into your calculator, but would have been developed by another company than Texas Instruments for this model.

For PCs, there is software that perfectly fulfills the task you are asking for, it’s Mathematica.

It even managed to find the integral of x tan[x] in just a couple of tries! I must admit I was impressed.

Hello, when you type the square root of 8, there are 2 square roots of 2. Once this result is displayed, you need to press the two small arrows at the top of enter.

Autocalc is a "symbolic calculation" engine (actually it starts from the rounded result to simplify the expression) for almost all TI:
it can display a result in the form of a root, but also in exponential, logarithmic forms, etc.

I tested it, it works well but you need to have enough free RAM for execution (even if the program is normally optimized).
Sometimes you have to wait up to 30 seconds, but the result is stunning.
