Hello everyone!
Does anyone have the solution to unlock the THOMSON DTH8750 home recorder? It is factory programmed in Zone 2 and sometimes has trouble with multi-zones (zone 0).
Thanks in advance and have a great day everyone!

I just want to vent about these technological lock-in policies that ruin the lives of consumers.
I can no longer play some of my DVDs that I bought brand new and completely legally in France due to a region issue (even though I could play them before on the same PC...). I spent hours trying to fix the problem without success.
So now I'm completely unable to watch my purchased DVDs...
I learned my lesson, so now I just have to download the DVDs I've already bought for free and illegally, and I'm not planning to go back to a store to buy and pay for DVDs.
Why pay and hassle when you can download for free and enjoy???

Hello everyone,
here are some elements that will answer some of your questions.
Regarding France:
The importation of Zone 1 DVDs is not prohibited; it is allowed as long as the film DVD has been released in ZONE 2.
So, a merchant is not allowed to sell a Zone 1 until the French edition has been released (I repeat myself).
However, you can indeed spend your holidays in Canada or Argentina and bring back Zone 1 or 4 DVDs legally, since they were purchased in the country of origin.
These measures are taken to support the publishing industry in France compared to the USA, which releases films in Zone 1 long before we do.
I hope I have answered your question.

Hmmm, far from me the idea of wanting to be a pain, but why is it forbidden to watch a DVD from a different region?

Well, I actually wanted to add a little comment too... but I don't have your powers ;-)
In fact, from what I've gathered, it is completely legal (according to the information I found) to unlock your DVD player. Moreover, until not so long ago, importing DVDs (even online) was perfectly legal.
So I apologize for my hasty first comment (to whom??? to Tif...)

Thank you for the map of the zones,
I didn't know there were so many, that's why PC readers can change 6 times.
Next time I'll insist more with Google before saying I didn't find anything.
Bye, see you later.

Well, if it's legal, you can tell him how to do it....
How many zones are there? We know 1 and 2, and here is 4, where is 3??
Good night everyone.

The best way is to make a multizone copy of your DVD using Shrink so that you can modify the zones (knowing that you can only change your zones 4 or 5 times)
You click on the properties of your DVD burner / hardware tab / properties / DVD region
Don't forget to set your burner back to zone 2 afterwards

Not necessarily in need of software, my Thomson DTH-5xxx switches regions with the remote control (and it stays in 'no zone' all the time), manufacturers won't bother hardcoding the region, it's easier to choose it later, that way, they only produce one model for the whole world...
However, modifying the content of a DVD with DVD shrink (which removes the Decss) is less clear that this is allowed...

"The idiots will try anything. That's how we recognize them"
I live in Quebec and I would like to buy French films on eBay. When I search, it seems that I can only get them in Europe (region 2). I tried to download Shrink but it seems to be paid... Is there, in your opinion, another similar software that is free online?
Hello,
I am far from being a specialist, I acknowledge that, but there must be a free software available that allows downloading zone 2 DVDs.

Hello,
I believe it is "forbidden" to read DVDs from another region, but I'm not sure it is forbidden to unlock a player...

Yeah yeah yeah .... :-S
Not false, all that ...
Certainly ...
But in that case the question arises ...........
.... why do the "industrials" insist on making players by regions and why do publishers differentiate their products by region ?????
Surely not for fun ... Or maybe?

According to what I've read, these zones are related to commercial issues (that's for sure) and DVD player manufacturers to be able to affix the DVD-Video logo and company must meet certain criteria set by the DVD Forum... If they don't meet the criteria, zzzzooooouuu!!
But then, apparently, there are no problems for individuals, in terms of legality, to remove this zoning.

Thank you Pascal for these clarifications,
So it seems logical that users should have the right to region unlock their player, besides here in Switzerland, almost all home players are multiregion.
However, I still haven’t found an answer to my question about the regions, is 3 Asia? And 4, we don't even talk about it on Google.
See you later.

There is also the "0" zone, which means: no zone, so readable on all readers...
