Remove pixel out of work area

Hello

In Photoshop, how can I delete the pixels in my visible layers that are outside the canvas and not seen in the final image without flattening the image or the layers? I know this adds weight to my final PSD, but I don't know how to get rid of them without merging the layers, please? ...

      can you explain to me in more detail how to proceed please?

      I have several layers that exceed the work area and I would like to do this on all my layers....

    Hello fredconv,

    First, let me clarify that I use Gimp, not Photoshop. But I assume that PS can do everything Gimp does.

    As I'm not sure I fully understand what you want to achieve, I'll rephrase what I gathered:
    - you have several layers, and the dimensions of some visible layers, which you want to keep, exceed those of your working area (= canvas size in Gimp)
    - some pixels in these layers, larger than the canvas, are therefore masked, you’re not interested in them, but they bloat the image, and you want to get rid of them
    - in other words, you only want to keep the pixels from these layers that are within the canvas.

    If that’s indeed the issue, a simple cropping to the canvas size using the crop tool should be enough, right?

    @amorax: you understood perfectly. Unfortunately, I have never used GIMP but only Photoshop, but I guess the tools must be very similar.

    @vankop I tried it, I adopted it!! Thank you. I hadn't thought that cropping to the size of my canvas (or workspace) would cut all my layers to that size..

    I thought it was an operation on the layers that I needed to perform and not on the entire image itself.

    If we can do that on a specific layer as well, I’m interested, but the cropping solution works :)

    Re fredconv,

    This is the first time I see a Photoshop user unhappy about never having used Gimp ;-o)))
    I was just convinced that there was definitely an equivalent in Photoshop, but the same tools don’t always have the same names.

    So if it did what you wanted, that's great.

    And with Gimp, you can perform the "cropping" (thanks vankop) on a single layer (a checkbox), and there’s definitely an equivalent in PS as well.
