Hello,
If you're looking to book a hotel, don't go through the website "hostels.com" (not to be confused with hotel.com... it's subtle).
This site charges booking fees + a commission; all non-refundable.
Today, I booked two nights with them. I made the payment, okay.
Then I wanted to book another night elsewhere still with them. But my browser had saved the dates of my first reservation and I didn't pay attention.
I made a wrong reservation; I realized it and canceled it right away (within 10 minutes) then finally proceeded to the correct second reservation.
Result: I was charged for all 3 transactions of the fees in question and when I ask them to be understanding (I explain the situation), they refuse to refund me. So I'm going to start a procedure... but avoid booking through this site which has no commercial consideration for its clients who are only seen as wallets.

I didn't pay through PayPal, I communicated my credit card number directly to the site...!
Fees for nothing €6. I know it's not a big deal, but it's a matter of principles and honesty. If they do this with everyone, it's their guaranteed fortune...

I'm following up on the topic to ask you a question! I booked with hostel.com last night for a youth hostel in New York.
I entered all the necessary information (security code, credit card, etc.). Once the information was entered, a loading page started and led me to a page that says "the page you are looking for does not exist."
From there, I checked my emails and received a confirmation that I am subscribed to the hostel.com newsletter (there was a checkbox during the "enter information" step) but no reservation confirmation.
How did you know that your reservation was confirmed? By email?
