Hello,
I have a "1080p HDTV".
The broadcasts from the HD TNT channels do not output 5.1 sound when I connect the television to the Sony home theater (which is capable of decoding DTS).
Why?
Is it because the channel broadcasts never send 5.1 or is it a setting on the television (auto sound output or PCM)?
Thank you.

Can you give me the brand and model of your TV? I will check on a specialized forum...
Do you have two audio encodings for sound on HD TNT channels?
If so, have you verified that you have no sound on both audio tracks?
Awaiting your responses
Best regards, Jérôme

It's an LG 42 LH3000.
I can choose multiple languages on the TNTHD channels if that's the question.
I'll check tonight if I can choose between 2.0 sound and 5.1 sound.
Thank you, see you later. -

I will check this evening whether the built-in HD TNT tuner on your TV is compatible with the audio encoding in DD+ of the HD TNT channels

I confirm that your TNT tuner is compatible with the audio encoding of HD TNT channels
so the problem does not come from the tuner.

Thank you Jérôme!
This confirms my idea.
But where does the problem come from?
Is it possible that my home theater is not reading the signal coming from the television?
It does not read the Blu-ray player in PCM output and I have to set a Bitstream output on this player. -
I admit I am not a specialist in sound....
How is your home cinema connected to your various components?
So you have
a TV
a Blu-ray player
To get sound from your HD TNT tuner to your amplifier, you need either an optical connection between the TV and the amp (or an HDMI cable if your amp can handle them); other types of connections likely do not support Dolby Digital +....
To give you a comparison, I have an LG plasma, a PS3, and a satellite decoder
The PS3 and the satellite decoder are connected via optical to the amp, which handles all the different audio formats by itself.... I didn’t have to make any special adjustments (other than indicating to the PS3 to use the optical output for sound)

Hello
For your information: in the use of the Sony PS3 console which plays Blu-rays very well in 5.1 sound (on the Sony PS3 website)
the wiring diagram is indicated on page 20
via HDMI with a TV and a home theater system (just follow the order indicated)

I watched last night.
By connecting the TV to the amplifier via optical cable and tuning to TF1HD.
The TV indicates that the sound detected is DD+.
On my amplifier, I see that the received sound is DD 2.0.
Does TF1 broadcast most of its programs in DD+ 2.0 and occasionally in DD+ 5.1?
As for the Blu-ray player, when I connect the amplifier directly to the player, the amplifier only decodes the 5.1 if it is set to Bitstream.
If I send the bitstream sound to the TV via HDMI, and then connect the TV to the amplifier via optical cable, the sound arrives at the amplifier as 2.0.
Note, my HDMI cable (between the player and the TV) is not 1.3. Could this explain the issue?
Thank you. -
Hello
certainly it's the dance of the digital! And depending on the platforms and the origin of the channel programs, it constantly switches from one to the other. How to know? Personally, I have an external decoder and I press AUDIO on the remote control, a small screen appears and tells me what sounds are present: Stereo 2.0 and AC3. But if it’s like on DVDs, with the home cinema, the light turns on in 5.1 and there isn't always that content; I've already heard real 2.0 with a 5.1 light on, why? Mystery.
I honestly think that only "cinema films" can pretend to TRUE 5.1
There are cases where you have to make adjustments, it's not always easy to have the latest equipment that does everything (well)
Bye
Ps this is just a casual user’s opinion -
Hi
the HD TNT channels broadcast audio in 5.1 ....
when you are on an HD channel, you should be able to change the audio source ....
if you're having trouble getting sound, it's probably your TV's built-in tuner that doesn't support the audio encoding of HD broadcasters ....
This is a well-known issue that affects quite a few televisions at the moment.
Best regards, Jérôme
