Mail app blocked on MacBook

Hello everyone,

Since I mistakenly sent a fairly large email (24MB, nonetheless), my Mail application keeps freezing. My large email keeps appearing in the recovered messages, and as a result, nothing else happens. I am not receiving anything, and I cannot send anything either. Additionally, this also blocks my internet connection.

If anyone knows a way to permanently delete this email from the recovered messages, I would greatly appreciate their help!

Thank you in advance,

Carlinow

Configuration: Mac OS X / Firefox 3.6.2

Try a different manipulation then.

Force Mail to quit. Right-click on the icon in the Dock / force quit.

Then go take a look in
Hard Disk / Users / Your Name / Library / Mail
and here locate the folders named after your email address, e.g.:
pop-xxxx@pop;laposte.net
or
pop-xxxxx@pop.free.fr

Inside each of the similar named folders, you have several folders,
one of which is named Sent Message.mbox (Sent inbox...)
examine what's in these folders, you should find the culprit by checking its size in MB. Or more simply, throw away everything in the Sent Messages.mbox folders.

Do the same with the contents of any folders named Retrieved Messages.mbox (recovery inbox)

In a simplistic way, you can also use Spotlight to do a targeted search within the Mail folder to find any file larger than xxx MB.

Good luck

I have the same problem. I sent myself an 8.4 MB email (to my work email) and I tried to delete the email that was being sent. Since then, I don’t receive my emails (but I can still send them...) I thought it was just an issue with my incoming IMAP, but since I still can’t resolve this problem, I noticed that the reception issue coincides with the sending of this large email. I followed the instructions above, but unfortunately the email keeps coming back in my retrieved emails! Aaargh! Thanks in advance if someone has an idea or a lead to help me get rid of this 'bub'.

Hello,
I also had the same problem and what worked after I deleted the messages in the library was reconfiguring the account, and it worked! Thank you for your help!

Hello, I am having exactly the same problem: trying to send an email that is too large which ends up in the recovered messages folder and multiplies (2900 times), impossible to delete. As a result, I can no longer receive emails. However, there is no problem on another account.
I can't find the mentioned mail folders in the finder, even with a search (no mbox folder).
I am on Lion 10.7.4.
Have you found a solution since this post? Thank you for your help.

Here is a method to solve this problem:
Go to Apple Mail / Preferences / Accounts and remove the problematic account.
All stored emails will be deleted.
Close Mail
Open Mail and recreate the same account: All the missing emails will be recovered and the bug email will appear in the drafts folder. You just need to delete it and everything will return to normal.

See you later

Hello,

Disconnect your Mac from the internet; the email will go into the outbox (pending). From there, delete it and empty the trash. Then reconnect the Mac to the internet? (Disable/Enable Airport, or unplug/replug the ethernet cable).

Have a nice day

Hello and thank you, Sanspseudo.

I tried, but it doesn't work. I took a capture image:

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3715/capturedcran20100329174.jpg

My inbox (red circle at the top left) keeps searching continuously. And finds nothing. I always find my email in the Recovered Messages (bottom circle). Or I manage to delete it, but nothing unlocks, and it reappears again...

Thank you for your help!

Hello,
I have the same problem as Carlinow and I followed the steps from sanspseudo and pattitine but without success...
The message keeps coming back in my "recovered messages" folder; however, I can send emails but it takes longer than usual to send and I am not receiving any mail.
How can I reload all preferences and reconfigure my email? Should I delete this account and reinstall it? I'm afraid of losing my messages and especially my folders. I specify that it's a gmail address.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I had the same issue. Here might be the solution:

- open your Library
- open the Mail folder
- open the Mail-recovered folder and move all the files from the folder to the Mac trash, empty the trash
- try sending yourself an email to see if you receive it.
Otherwise, you need to reload all Preferences and reconfigure your Mail like the first time (that's what the Apple Store did for me!!)

Is it true that by reconfiguring you lose all your emails?
Thank you

The Mail-recovered folder is located in the Mailboxes folder.

To remove the recovered emails that keep coming back on the Mac, in my opinion, you need to go to the source server (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) and put all the messages in the trash and empty the trash.
