Windows NT 4 Service Pack 6 VirtualBox

Hello,

In order to run old applications (that do not work with Windows 7 or XP), I installed Windows NT 4 Workstation on a virtual machine (created with VirtualBox).

The problem is that you need Service Pack 6 to install Internet Explorer 5.5 and then version 6 (which will certainly work better than IE 2), and to have better stability (as well as better security). But it is impossible to download any files from the Microsoft site. Shared folders are not supported with NT, and USB virtualization does not work either (NT 4 has very poor Plug & Play support). The only solution I have left is to download the SP6 directly through IE 2 from a source other than the Microsoft site.

Service Pack 6 for Windows NT4
Internet Explorer 5.5
Internet Explorer 6

Where can I find SP6 for NT4 other than from Microsoft? (And directly in ".exe" format)

Thank you in advance for your responses.

In that case, I must have done something to Google for it not to help me...

    Hello everyone,

I don't know if it's still relevant, but I have the SP6 Fr for Windows NT4 WorkStation with IE. If anyone is interested, just let me know... I’ll put it on my website.

    Goodbye everyone.

Hi, I don't know if you've managed to solve your problem since then.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you.
Except that my Internet Explorer hardly works; for example, the Google page just won't load, which isn't very convenient.

So I found a sp6 in .exe that I tried to convert into ISO to open it later with CD-ROM virtualization. But it doesn't work; it tells me that my "cd" is empty.
And as you said so well, without the sp6, it's impossible to share files.

So, if you've found a solution, it would really help me, and if you know where to find an .iso of the sp6, that would help even more!

    Thanks,

I did it! Through the VirtualBox forum, the process involves installing a second hard drive on a machine where sharing works, e.g., XP, and then connecting it to NT.

VirtualBox, file, media manager: you create a new hard drive.
You attach it to an already installed guest with working sharing; I did it with XP (in the "Configuration" of your machine then "Storage").
Under XP, you look for administrative tools, and an application that allows you to manage your disks (I don't remember the name, but it's via the control panel). There you find your new disk, assign it a letter (like E:), format it, etc. I think I formatted it in Fat.
You place your SP6 update on this new disk.
You shut down XP; normally this new disk will appear in your NT's My Computer (you also need to attach the disk to NT, in "Config" as well).
And voila, the job is done.

P.S. I had to try twice before it appeared under NT (at first the disk appeared but I got an error message), initially trying to format it via NT, then via XP; I struggled a bit, I’m not very “geek,” so I’m kind of fumbling around in forums.
If you read English, here are the responses I got on the VirtualBox forum if it can help you:
      https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38656

      See you later

P.S. SP6 plus IE6 take up a bit of space once installed (for the NT era), so if you haven't installed NT yet, plan for at least 1GB of disk, you'll be more comfortable (I had put 500MB and it's cutting it close).

      Thank you! :D

After all this time, I didn't think I would find the solution.
