Mustek 1200 UB Scanner for Windows 7

I know, I'm digging up the topic a bit, but I think it's good for others to benefit from my experience, especially since I feel like many are still searching. I also have a Mustek 1200 UB Plus scanner in perfect condition, which will still provide good service. Of course, the drivers I have are from prehistoric times, and the ones available for XP (on the Mustek site) stubbornly refuse to install, even in compatibility mode.

After a day of research, I managed to get it working perfectly under Win 7 32 bits. It should work for all Mustek USB models from that time (but we'll see about that). Here's how I did it:

Installation under Windows Vista 32 / Windows Seven 32: manually install the driver
1. Download the driver from the following address: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BxxMQgQnq6TfNjE3NGE0ZmUtZjk1NC00OTUxLWJjNGUtNDZjMTVkN2Y5ZWRk&hl=en_US&pli=1
2. Unzip it into an accessible folder,
3. Connect the scanner to a free USB port, preferably on the back (the front ports are often HUBs, which can degrade performance, or even prevent operation),
4. Windows will say it does not recognize this device, and that no driver is installed,
5. Go to Start > right-click on Computer > Manage,
6. In Computer Management, click on Device Manager,
7. Look for an unknown device (yellow triangle),
8. Right-click on this device > Update Driver,
9. Search for a driver on my computer,
10. Browse to point to the directory containing the unzipped driver mentioned above,
11. Click on Next
12. If all goes well, Windows should recognize a Mustek 1200 UB Plus WIA Scanner.

Usage, 2 possibilities:
1. Either with Windows utility (at least for Seven, I don't know about Vista): Start > All Programs > Windows Fax and Scan, a somewhat basic but functional (tested)... and free utility,
2. Or with a third-party application such as Vuescan 9 x32, very comprehensive and effective (also tested), but paid (around €30).
