Hello,
I have a problem with my external drive "Connectland mobile disk external data storage", model No: BE-USB2-HD-231.
I believe I am connecting it with the right cable (USB > mini-USB), even though there is another connector on it, but my PC does not detect it. This happened suddenly, and the green LED lights up, but my PC has no reaction.
(It's worth mentioning that I have changed to a new PC now, and since I'm using VISTA (unfortunately), I don't know if there might have been an installation CD that came with it. If there was one, anyway, it probably only worked with 98 or XP.)
Can you help me? I have very important folders on it. I have already searched this topic on other forums, but none have answered my question correctly.

    Have you tried changing the USB port?
    Has the PC running Vista detected it before?
    Does it still work on a computer running XP?

    What is certain: No driver is needed to use your drive on Vista.

      I haven't tried different USB ports
      The PC running Vista never recognized it
      And I no longer have a PC with XP, but when I still had it, it was not recognized, but it made a weird noise, and I think it's due to the USB cable (which wasn't the original one) since now, with the original cable, it doesn't make that noise anymore

    First, test on all USB ports.

    What did the strange noise sound like? (crack crack, vvhHHTACK, click click, continuous high-pitched noise...) Did it suffer a shock?
    Does the original cable have 2 USB connectors or just one?
    Same question for the non-original cable.

      The noise was scary, kind of like a washing machine, with fairly deep clinks...
      He did receive shocks, yes.
      And the two cables were similar: USB > mini USB, just simple ones, except that the original one is lighter and does not work, for example, with my phone.

    In my opinion, he is dead...
    He made noises at the beginning and the damage led to the end of the engine's life ---> no more noise

    If when you hold it in your hands while it's plugged into the computer and you don't feel any vibrations, it's over...

      I tried again with the other cable, and it's making the stressful noises again...
      I don't care about the enclosure, but can I transfer the hard drive if I buy a new enclosure?

    A priori, if the drive makes horrible noises, the impact may have damaged the read head on the platter and possibly caused a bend on the arm, which is causing the head to grind against the platter...

    The noise could very well be from a capacitor on the USB control board humming due to an inappropriate sizing of the secondary cable.

    So you need to remove the drive and test it in another enclosure...

    If you have friends who have external drives of 2.5-inch format, now is the time to call them

    or you could buy a new external enclosure, but I can't guarantee the result since I don't know the nature of the emitted noise...
