Porn sites in browsing history

Hello,
I need some explanations. I accidentally discovered pornographic website links in the browsing history. I checked to make sure, and they were indeed links to that kind of site. Additionally, there were Google searches with keywords like free sex, etc.
I wasn't present over the weekend, and so my friend was the only person involved. I asked him how those kinds of sites could be in the history when he assured me he wasn't looking at that stuff. He told me it was because of video series download sites, and that sometimes you have to go through those kinds of sites, and he didn't know how it ended up in the history since he hadn't watched them. But I find it strange that there would be links in the history if he didn't see them, especially with the Google searches. Is it possible for software to record website links in the browsing history?
Configuration: Linux Firefox 2.0.0.11

I didn't even think that in this day and age, people still hide to go on those sites.
What year are we in again??

If you push the system, the system strikes back. Formatting is not a daily task.
There are 2 types of people: those who read the instructions and the others.
