What is WAP?

Hello,

I am not an extraterrestrial but rather an old man, a young old man.
I bought a SAMSUNG C270 from Zeroforfait. I wanted to download a ringtone. I went to a website and sent 2 SMS to receive my ringtone. I received an SMS for this ringtone. The G on my phone screen confirms that the GPRS (internet, I think) is connected. I try to connect but there is no network available. I contact Zeroforfait who tells me that my phone is not connecting to the internet, even though I have a WAP 2.0 browser. What is a WAP browser then? I thought it was used to go online. The SAMSUNG hotline, on the other hand, tells me that my phone is connecting to the internet and should send me a configuration SMS that it is not sending.

If you could explain a little bit, that would be nice. At 50 years old, I am a bit out of touch with this telephony.

Thank you very much for your responses.

Best regards.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

The WAP protocol (in English: Wireless Application Protocol or WAP)[1] is a communication protocol that allows access to the Internet from a wireless transmission device, such as a mobile phone or a personal assistant.wikipedia

So yes, you are right, a WAP browser is the thing that lets you go online from a mobile phone.
