Picture Motion Browser on Mac?

Hello everyone,
I just bought a Sony HDR-XR500VE camcorder because after comparisons on the web, I thought it was a good investment.
I didn’t expect that Sony would provide a unique software (“picture motion browser”) that would only work exclusively on Windows...
My question is as follows: If I install Windows on my 24-inch Mac:
• 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
• 4Go 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2Go
• 640Go Serial ATA Drive
Will I be able to use this software meant for PC?
Once the import is done, do you think I could use it with iMovie?
(I think so, but I’d rather ask... For the “pros”, please excuse the naivety of my question, but I am truly a beginner on Mac!!!)
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Patrick

Thank you very much Shinzonqc,
In fact, I've read here and there about all the compatibility issues of this software (and others...) with OS X...
For this software as for others, the simple solution is to use Windows...
No matter how much we prefer (and it's largely justified!) Leopard, but if it becomes a headache for certain applications, it’s better to use Windows occasionally!
Just a quick question: If we need to update an application on our Mac through Windows, is the system at risk of becoming infected with viruses like a PC under Windows?

Yes, if you create a Windows partition, it's like having a PC, so your Windows partition is just as exposed as a standard PC. However, there's nothing to worry about for your Mac partition, PC viruses won't "jump" to your Mac partition ;-)

You should therefore protect yourself with an antivirus like AVG, (https://www.avg.com/fr-fr/free-antivirus-download it's free) and possibly a firewall other than the one from Windows (which is crap) like Sygate Personal Firewall (https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/securite/21465-sygate-personal-firewall/ also free) which is effective and creates fewer incompatibilities than Zone Alarm.

You're welcome.

Hi!

I also have the same issue of finding a PMB for my leopard mac since I already had a Sony HDR-XR 105E camera. No issue with Windows because the program came with it! However, I don't want to install Windows on my Mac! I'm already tired of its endless updates and instability. If you want to run Windows on your Mac, you can, and of course, you'll need an antivirus! But then, it’s no longer a Mac!
Since Macs are more compatible with multimedia than PCs, there should be equivalent programs available. We'll keep each other updated!

Why stress over PMB, if you own a MAC you just need to use IMOVIE 11.
I have a 27-inch IMAC running Lion and I have no issues capturing my videos from my SONY HD camcorder (AVCHD), the editing is very easy and intuitive on IMOVIE.

Hello Morka3,

I'm in the same situation as you, but I lose quality with every import. I go from a HD image to something not glamorous at all.
Are there any import settings I've missed... I'm going crazy.

Hello, my issue is that when I open iMovie 11 and try to import my videos, it simply crashes!! I don't see any solutions unless I transfer the videos to a PC and then back to my Mac :-(
