If I understand correctly, you have a problem with *selecting* text in a PDF? Actually, you have a selection tool in Acrobat Reader. By default, you are on the "Hand" tool, which allows you to scroll through the pages (your cursor then takes the shape of... a hand! :-)).
To select text, there is the "Text" tool, an icon with a capital T next to a dotted selection box. Click on this tool (or press the shortcut 'V'): your cursor will then become a text selection cursor, allowing you to highlight the parts you are interested in. Then you can copy/paste, and you're good to go.

Utilize Google Translate. It offers you two options to translate your PDF: either you provide the web address of the file or you allow it to directly import the PDF document from your hard drive and it will take care of the rest.

We studied the IV characteristics and the behavior of the critical current density of YBa2Cu3O7 films, prepared by sputtering, at different values of applied magnetic field and temperature. The superconductor was deposited on polycrystalline ZrO2 (8 moles % of Y2O3). The IV characteristics were obtained using a short pulse current measurement technique to avoid heating phenomena. We employed a theoretical model to describe the IV characteristics, based on a statistical treatment of the motion of vortices in arbitrary pinning potentials. Besides determining the critical current density Jc, this model allows us to characterize pinning sites by a function giving their energy distribution. In this way, we could clearly distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic pinning in YBa2Cu3O7 films. 1. INTRODUCTION A common feature of high-Tc superconductors is to exhibit highly anisotropic superconducting properties due to their layered structure. Tachiki and Takahashi proposed a theoretical model for intrinsic pinning and derived the dependence of the critical current density Jc on the direction of the magnetic field with respect to the crystal axes [1]. This model is based on the modulation of the superconducting order parameter due to the widely accepted alternation of strong superconducting layers such as CuO2 planes and weak superconducting layers such as CuO chains and BaO planes in YBa2Cu307-x. Most of the reported experimental results conform quite well to those predicted for this intrinsic pinning model [2]. It is known that high-quality single-crystal samples provide detailed investigations on anisotropy. Consequently, a significant number of studies have already been carried out on single-crystalline films [3, 4], but there have been relatively few investigations on anisotropy in polycrystalline films [5]. The aim of this paper is to present detailed investigations on the IV characteristics and critical current density Jc transport in YBa2Cu3O7-x films deposited on polycrystalline ZrO2 substrate. The results are described by a statistical model that provides a qualitative study of the pinning mechanism anisotropy in granular materials, which can sometimes make it difficult to give an elementary description of the phenomena involved. 2. EXPERIMENTAL METHOD For the determination of the terminal dc measurements of four conventional and critical currents, the heating issue at the resistive contacts between the superconductor and the current leads often complicates the results. Indeed, heat can spread into the sample causing significant thermal instability, leading to measured values of the critical current density that are much lower than the actual values. To avoid such problems, a pulsed current system was developed, which allows reliable measurement of the critical current density. To ensure good electrical contact quality, 50 micron gold wires were ultrasonically bonded to evaporated Au contacts on the film. The current was supplied by a programmable current source (Keithely Inst., model 220), in the form of single pulses of maximum amplitude I, and duration 6z (10 to 20 ms). The voltage appearing across the voltage contacts was measured by a programmable digital oscilloscope after being amplified by a low-noise, high-gain amplifier (DB 100). While thermal effects pose a major problem in conventional CC measurements, the simple pulse method is very sensitive to electrical noise due to the wide bandwidth of the oscilloscope. Therefore, in order to reduce the latter, we applied standard techniques to achieve an acceptable noise level. In particular, we shielded and twisted all voltage leads and fed this shielding to the platform of the cryostat. The low-noise preamplifier was placed as close to the sample as possible to reduce the voltage induced on the amplifier input. We also introduced a low-pass filter between the amplifier and the oscilloscope to minimize high-frequency noise. Since the detected noise was essentially random, the pulse frequency was fixed at 0.5 hertz, and the measurements were averaged over more than 30 identical current pulses at the same fixed values of J, T, and H. The resulting noise level for the measurements later reported in this paper was about 30 nanovolts. Typical waveforms of the voltage pulse are shown in Figure 2. A first cut of about 0.5 ms in duration is generally observed, which can be positive or negative. Such a cut likely results from the individual inductance of the loop formed by the sample and the sensing leads. Then the voltage increases to its normal value with a rise time resulting from the filter. To eliminate these filtering effects, the measured voltage value was defined as the average over about 50 points between arrows as indicated in Figure 2. The granular film studied here was sputtered onto a polycrystalline ZrO2 substrate with a surface area of 10 x 3 mm2 [6]. The film thickness as determined using a profilometer was 6000 Å. The transition temperature obtained from the resistive transition in zero magnetic field is Tc=85 K. STATISTICAL MODEL Our model [7] allows for the analysis of the flow regime of flux in any structural superconductor regardless of their nature. To this end, we perform a statistical treatment of the motion of vortices interacting with each other and with these defects. We consider the case in which the magnetic field is always perpendicular to the transport current but can be parallel or perpendicular to the c-axis. For a particular pinning center, as soon as the local current density exceeds the critical current density, the vortex that is initially pinned can move freely. During its motion, the vortex may interact with other defects, and depending on the depth of the potential well, it may (or may not) remain pinned until the local current density reaches the corresponding critical current density. This behavior can be easily described by defining the local critical current densities jci corresponding to different pinning forces. These critical current densities need to be compared to the local transport current density j to determine whether the vortex is pinned or moves with velocity; thus one obtains: j > jci (3) Here Fpi is the pinning force exerted on the vortex i, which can be associated with a critical current density Jci. VLi is the velocity of the vortex and rl is the viscosity coefficient assumed to be the same for all vortices.
