I realize that many people really do not know how to exploit the phenomenal potential of the NOKIA N97.
Here are some tips:
1/ To download thousands of applications, you just need to use the Ovi Store directly from the mobile. (It's free and there is no credit card information to provide). It's the blue shopping basket icon on the mobile. You will need to create an account.
2/ The Ovi Maps GPS is now completely free. A true global GPS with integrated satellite antenna. No data connection is necessary (Nothing to do with an iPhone that loses signal on the highway and cannot be used abroad without the right plan). To update the GPS, you can use several methods. Either by searching for "ovi maps" on the Ovi Store. Or by updating from Menu, Applications, Update (on the phone), or by connecting your mobile to a PC and using the ovisuite2 software.
3/ The software that allows you to access OVI services can be downloaded for free directly from the nokia.fr website.
4/ With ovisuite2 you can: put DivX, MP3, back up all your data directly on the site (useful in case of loss of the mobile. You can recover all your contacts, photos, and videos anywhere in the world on ovi.com with your credentials), download maps of the countries you are interested in for the GPS before going on vacation, make updates, etc...
5/ Regarding the GPS: Know that not only is the voice navigation for driving and walking free, but also the fixed speed cameras are indicated (with sound and visual alarms + a message indicating the approach of a safety camera).
To conclude: The big trend is the iPhone, and many are convinced that there is nothing better. However, the features and richness of the N97 are incomparably superior. Just having a physical keyboard in addition to the touchscreen provides a comfortable user experience. No hidden costs with the GPS that works worldwide even without a SIM card. A true DVD-quality video recorder with audio/video output (In your pocket, you have a real camcorder, a 5 MP photo camera, GPS, web browser with WiFi connection if needed, MP3 player, DivX player, etc...)

The simplest way is to connect your N97 to the PC, put it in mass storage mode (your phone will automatically prompt you).
Then, open the icon corresponding to your phone (removable disk on C:), go to the Installs folder and drag and drop your applications. Make sure your applications are in the ".sis" or ".sisx" format.
Finally, go to the N97 settings, Applications, and Application installations. And there you go!!!
P.S.: Some applications might display a message like: "is not compatible with the phone, continue?" but it still works anyway.

Your app is normally in sis format, otherwise you need to download software to extract it (winrar).
Once downloaded, open the removable drive of your phone and paste the app in a folder.
Disconnect the phone from the computer and go to the application manager of the N97. Then find the folder where you installed the app, click on the app, and install it! There you go!

"Many applications on OVI" I believe this is a joke. I own an N97, a small jewel of creativity and technology, but I am very disappointed that you will find nothing or practically nothing to install on it. I made the mistake of prioritizing the power and ergonomics of the phone, where the N97 is surely very dominant, but I regret not having chosen an operating system like Android where a wide range of applications await you. Maybe in the future, if the N97 becomes very successful, developers will take an interest in it, which I doubt with the arrival of Windows Mobile. Question: Will we be able to change the OS of the N97 to Windows Mobile?
Hello, a complete and simple site where everything is free, for Nokia N95, N96, N97 this site ===> https://www.zedge.net/
In the app folder found in the menu, generally all the newly installed applications can be found at the bottom.
Mixmove, don't be mistaken, there are quite a few applications, but you have to know where to look; you have Blog97 which is great, and there is also this forum which is pretty good http://www.s60share.com/symbian-os-9-1-9-2-9-3-apps/ after you have to search, don't get stuck on Ovi, check out this app which is still in beta but it shows promise http://pointandfind.nokia.com/
Personally, I have a lot of apps.

http://www.mon5800.com You will find plenty of applications for the Symbian v5 OS that your phone runs on.
Bonjour, vous avez un GPS gratuit déjà dans le téléphone, pas besoin de le télécharger. C'est le logo vert avec la direction N à côté de OVI. C'est un GPS, il fonctionne très bien et en plus, il est gratuit !
There is this site that offers everything you need for your N97! The installation is simple and convenient!!! ;)

download your application on the PC and install it with Nokia PC Suite by connecting your phone to the computer. You can find apps here:

and themes here:

Tu peux aussi télécharger des applications sur d'autres sites et les envoyer sur le tel grâce au câble et les installer depuis le tel.
There is an option on the N97 to install free applications; you need to uncheck the tool that says install only licensed applications to install them. Sometimes that's the problem—just uncheck it. Go to Settings / Application Manager / Installation Settings / Installation Settings / Software Installation and set it to All. Sorry, as I have an N97.
In the app folder found in the menu, usually all newly installed applications are located at the bottom.
