Hi, I'm also starting high school and they're asking me to choose a calculator. I'm thinking of getting the TI-83 because it has more memory and I want to continue in a scientific field. But if you’re not continuing, I recommend the TI-82; it’s definitely sufficient! After all, what makes the difference is the price and memory. The TI-83 has more memory but is more expensive.
It's up to you now.
It's up to you now.
It's even worth getting the TI-84 if you want to continue, it has even more memory and more functions
I have one and it has served me well

Apparently, my comment may no longer be of use to you, but I will still try to help the little students who are entering the second year and are required to have a graphic calculator, in order to know which one to choose (yes, there is quite a range of choices), I think you should consider the following 3 questions:
_What subjects, studies, etc. are you considering (for scientific tracks, know that if some say that a TI 82 Stat.fr is sufficient, be aware that in that case, you will probably be missing some functions, but no panic, you can create them yourself by writing a program. It is therefore advisable to get a TI 83 Plus (.fr for those who are allergic to English), for those considering an S track; otherwise, the TI 82 Stat.fr is fine for other series.
_How much are you willing to spend? Because if it doesn't count for much, I recommend getting a calculator that has symbolic computation (literal calculation, ...) like the TI 89 and above, which is an advantage in high school and for the baccalaureate, but this is not an excuse not to learn mathematical methods, as they are prohibited in some competitions.
_Finally, for what use? If it’s for gaming, I’ll tell you right away that you’ll be very disappointed, so it’s better to buy a second-hand PS3 or Xbox. For those interested in programming and anti-cheat measures (oops, I shouldn't have said that), prioritize a calculator with a lot of memory (avoid the TI 82 Stat.fr).
Know that I passed my S baccalaureate using the TI 83 Plus.fr, and the calculator was quite well adapted to the program, but now with all these reforms, I can't promise anything.
There you go, I hope to help some of you during this decision-making time.
